A 70k bet that I can't make a 50% gain in 2009

Quote from geez:

I will let you in on a little Geez secret:
I played sports all through college (paid for my education). I played pro for 1 year. I know what it is like to be on a monster run, I also know what it's like to think every move you make on the field was a complete and utter mistake.
But, at the end of the year, the numbers seem to fit perfect to what I tried to do. I think trading is very similar. There are some great win streaks, followed by some weeks that seem like every trade you enter, the market turns as soon as you get in. I won't tell you what sport I played (No Jeg, I wasn't a cheerleader), but I think it emulates trading perfectly. You just have to ride the ebb and flow trading, and look to the end result.
I am very happy where the account is right now 5 months into the year, and that's all that really counts. Not what happened today, or yesterday, or last week...but the overall result. That's what I stay focused on and continue to stay focused on.

Plus wine always helps!........G

Hey Geez,

A friend of mine led me to your thread back in April -- I have been following daily ever since. I wanted to thank you for your candor with respect to your strategy, your trades, and from time to time, your extracurricular activities. :) I really appreciate you sharing your insights and experience and look forward to learning more as I follow you throughout the rest of the year.

I would like to ask two questions:

You have referred to a chat room a few times, and others have mentioned watching your trades live -- what chat room can I listen to you, and your friends in? Seems I could learn a lot by listening to you all.

Were you a baseball player? I have thought a lot about sports and how they relate to trading (while trying to convince myself I can be a successful trader). I was a pitcher (closer) throughout college and think the mindset helps, A LOT.

Thanks again and I wish you continued success!

Best,
Jae

Thx jae,

Question 1: I will send you a PM with the chat we use as not to ruffle any feathers.

Question 2: I played on the PBC (Pro Badminton Circuit) for a few years before I blew out my knees diving for those shuttle cocks.

Geez, thanks for the awesome thread. I started browsing ET a few days ago and eventually made it to this journal. I've read every post since and have gleaned a lot from the explanations of your trades. More than anything, I'm beginning to fully comprehend the key to any profitable strategy is the kind of discipline that you adhere to, showed on every single page of this thread.

I was hoping you could also pm the chat that you guys use so I could lurk and try to learn as much as possible before I'm back in the States with a real (stable) internet connection. By the way, I work for one of the three letter agencies and I'm currently in Iraq.. I know tons of government contractors who do absolutely nothing everyday and make more than 150-200k a year, so hats off to you for actually trying to charge real hours and accomplish real work even while trading.

Thanks again for the enlightening thread!
