Quote from oldtime:

my point is, taxes are so high that the poor can't pay them. If you want to broaden the base with a consumption tax, make it so low that the little guy can pay it, and to do that you need to reduce spending dramatically.

A defense contractor needs lots of tax dollars to make a profit. And many other big corps need lots of gov spending to pave the way for their profits.

So either lay off the little guy with your consumption tax, or make sure 50% are exempt, or reduce government to the size that everybody can afford it and feel just how painful it is when spending goes up and taxes go up.
taxes neede will go to banks, the banks gotta cave, not the taxpayer,we are being held hostage

ALL foreign aid, should be given as vouchers to purchase US made goods only...

That essentially how much U.S. foreign aid works already , i.e., much of it is part of the corporate welfare system.

Ain't ET a great place for entertainment??
Usually the ET crowd is bitching because they claim that 50% of the people pay no taxes.
Then, when someone is in favor of requiring everybody to contribute, a lot of people here go into panic mode.
LOL

Hey folks...What freedoms and good things we have left ain't free.
Every American should contribute to the country.
Sorry, I have to be the one to break it down to you, but someone needs to.

Quote from Grandluxe:

Ron paul is not going to win as he has already been seen as a kook. It is not what I think but what the majority of Americans think. We must face reality.

Actually Jon huntsman is probably the most presidential looking of them all, a technocrat, ambassador to both China and Singapore, well respected in Asia, and speaks fluent mandarin, but again he is not going to win.

The only 2 questions you can ask yourself is this:

Are you definitely voting for Obama in 2012? If yes, then the debate is over, there is no point in discussing anybody's policies.

IF no, then you have to ask yourself, Who is best positioned to defeat Obama? America will vote along racial lines AGAIN, there is no point in denying this. We know that as evidenced by OWS, white youth will once again turn out for Obama irregardless of the economy. The ONLY way a republican candidate can win is by splitting the black vote. Right now, the African american vote is the king maker in American politics and CAIN is the only one who can capture 30-40% of the black vote.

Dude, do you drink a lot?
This ain't my thread.
Looks more like around 42 pages to me.
What is so hard to understand about "999"?
Gee whiz, did you graduate from the 4th grade?
sorry, my apology, you are correct. No, I didn't graduate 4th grade, I was forced to attend several more years. Although Ben Franklin dropped out after 6th grade, so at least I am smarter than he was.

but since 999 is so easy to understand and you understand it, if I am a farmer and I spend $500,00 on a combine will I be able to depreciate it over time?

Can you quote me on where I claimed that I knew all aspects of 999?
Cause I know that's where you're headed.
Right now, it's just a basic concept.
Nothing has been finalized and put into law, in case you have been sleeping.

I strongly encourage you to watch the debate tonight.
I realize you're a genius, but you just might learn something.

Congrats!
Start acting like it.

How you figger you're smarter than Ben Franklin?

Or will you pay 9% ($45,000) in sales tax on it.... valid questions.

Look everyone, I like to think I'm as open minded as anyone.. and don't get all "political" on every point... and this 999 plan makes some sense, but as we're finding out..."it ain't that simple" - I had to suffer through the CPA exam (that's why I smile when others complain about S7 or s56, LOL)... and trying to find "fairness" is a tough thing to do. Making politics out of our gross income, personal or corporate, is not too wise... perhaps we cut spending, come up with a number that needs to be made, and allocate proportionally (sounds easy, eh? LOL).. but that would be like like budgetary accounting..where you have a budget, and then try to secure that much money... can you imagine what a nightmare that would be? Seeing every politico trying to get "pork" for their districts... oh, yeah, they already do that....

anyway, try to keep some good ideas.... maybe we'll see some tonight from here in Vegas for the Rep debate...... who knows...

Don

Yes very entertaining from time to time! I'm particularly entertained by that oft repeated nonsense: "50 % of people pay no taxes." This is only literally true if "taxes" refers only to income taxes. In that case, this drivel is absurdly misleading, and otherwise it is dead wrong. Those at the lowest end of the income spectrum tend to pay a similar fraction, or even higher, of their income in taxes than those at the high end of the spectrum, and this is true whether a person pays income taxes or not!
