From my point of view to the extent that the specialist gets away with front running, "friends on the floor" and other shenanigans, I guess they can be said to be "the enemy". Problem is that there are more important (and unseen) enemies hanging out as well. How is it for instance, that Ted Turner can sell 55 million shares of AOL get sold without pulling the market, and "average joe" tries to move 10,000 and gets the shaft. For those that don't know about it, the institutional sale of stock is a "whole other world" that we don't get to participate in, but affects us quite a bit in both the short and long term.
