The difference is knowing the law. I know that open carry is illegal. If someone was carrying an AK47 out in the open in Walmart, that's a real problem. Since you can't conceal an AK47, any such display would be openly aggressive and indicative of impending violence.

But supposing open carry were allowed here, you wouldn't be able to brandish the weapon. Walking through the aisle of the store like this:

Is legal through open carry. That wouldn't make me nervous at all.

they had a bunch of rednecks in an open carry state who drove up in their pickup with "assault weapons" and walked into a Wendy's or Chipoltles, and laughed it up brandishing their rifles. It was all legal.
