So far so good and less volatility in my portfolio compared to S&P500. Kind of like a poor mans hedge fund.

More folks should stop putting money into these mutual funds and hedge funds and just do SPY and a few blue chips plus options instead for hedging.

You were using puts to protect your portfolio? Not a lot of people I know do that - it sounds like a good idea, but it eats at your profit, too. How much protection did you buy?
