Don't know. I thought I had a great point but axe pointed out that there are many Japanese creation stories (which makes sense as there are probably several different cultures in Japan). When I saw that, I thought he had deliberately left out the fantastical elements, because that is what I have seen in the creation accounts I've read.
In fact, I'd like to see a posting of the whole creation story, but I don't know if axe still has it. If it isn't "comic-book-ish", it will be the first one I have read (except for the Babylonian account).

So the genesis timeline goes like this....
1) universe, earth created, etc, etc,
2) Skip 200-300+ MILLION years of dinos
3) Skip to the very end....Man is created
Well gee.... if the book of genesis was equally weighted
and realistic, it would contain 200-300+ pages of dino stuff.
and 1-3 pages of man creation.
The VAST MAJORITY of earths creatures and the VAST MAJORITY
of the time spent on earth by these creates is simply glossed over.
What is puzzling, is how the all time greatest
rulers of earth (the dinos) are so easily glossed over.
We have been around about 1% or less the time of the dinos.
You dont see a problem here?
You call genesis realistic when it skips almost everything
and comes straight to us? The shortest rulers of earth?

I have read that the old testament should not be read verbatim due to errors in translation that have occurred throughout the ages. The Old Testament has literally been translated into hundreds of languages and that many of the popular English translations were third, forth and fifth translations from other languages.
That being said, apparently the biting of the apple by Adam is not meant to be taken literally but that, like many other areas in Genesis, it should be taken in a more metaphorical sense.
Apparently, even the translation of eternal hell was misconstrued and that the true Hebrew translation of eternity was not "forever" but "a very long time."
Personally, I don't believe in the concept of hell as it was taught to me from the Christian church. I do believe in various stages of self-growth and spiritual evolution, but the concept of God sending any soul to hell for eternal damnation just does not fit with the idea that God gives unconditional love and that God is an all-merciful God.
As much evil as this world has seen throughout the ages from individuals and collective groups -- atrocities committed by Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich against Jews, I do believe that God would be willing to help anyone that needs to see the light and not just those who live in a state without sin.
According to the doctrine that was preached to me in the Lutheran Church, any sin before God carried equal weight. So whether I steal my neighbor's shovel or kill my neighbor with my shovel, both sins carry equal weight before God. That is what I was brought up to believe. Also, I was baptized and circumcised by the church because apparently baptism is used to purify the baby and wash away whatever sin that resided from the sinful act of procreating. However, I'm not sure if the catholic church views baptism as symbolism or actuality. This always confused me (i.e. in my Lutheran church, the red wine is a symbol of the blood spilt by Jesus whereas in the Catholic Church, they believe it is actually his blood).
Perhaps some of you can clarify all this for me. The discussion of religion fascinates me to no end.

i Have read many science books and seen many Dino. documentary over the last 20 years and was quite frankly shocked to find out a) theory only have a couple hundred complete skeletal remains of dinosaurs b) they have created heads and bodies and then pictures and habitats for certain dinosaurs based on finding a shin bone c) many scientists NOW believe that T-Rex was NOT the great hunter they thought, but rather a scavenger like the hyenas.....
Lastly.....I don't really believe the story of creation either,...it think it is a way to put things into perspective.

I am being facetious....I believe dinosaurs existed ...I believe they existed before man....But i was also shocked to find out how little we have....I thought gowing up that there were just thousands and thousands of skeletal remains but it turns out there are very few and even fewer in tact ( complete) the majority are a piece of arm and a reconstruct....regarding evolution: I don't understand and this is about the 5th time ive mentioned this so bare with me or answer it...If the world was created by stars colliding...if these chemicals mixed and became plant cells, and then became animal cells, and then amoebas ect..then fish....finally dinosaurs for 200 million years.......THEN this so called Meteor hits engulfing earth in a dark cloud like state for a hundred thousand years and destroying all life......how come when life started again, the dinosaurs didn't come back???? the same elements were here..the same chemicals......where is t-rex????
