i know someone was going to link this...yeah it makes a nice story, but so what? It was from a small local developer on the outskirts of shanghai, and it had nothing to do with the quality of the building like the brit article stated, what happened was they miscalculated while digging the parking garage underneath on 1 side causing the weight to become unbalanced been so close to the water. It was a sad story 1 worker died.
If anything, notice how the building didnt break apart after falling, and most of the windows remained unbroken too, the company that made the windows became instantly famous because of this, trail by fire?
All you guys do is finding some isolated instance of china being negative, then point and laugh as if somehow American is so much superior, the arrogance is disgusting. I spoke to many chinese, although they lost some respect for americans after the banks collapsed and iraq, none have any contempt towards america nor reservations buying american like we do... Dont you guys feel small having such a narrow minded view.
China lifted close to 1 billion people out of utter poverty in less than a decade, it connected most of the country with modern high speed rails the time it took us to build a fucking airport lightrail train, the entire shanghai cityscape was transformed while we are still struggling to lay the foundation for the freedom tower after close to 10 years and with the historical significance of the greatest recent tragedy for the country, and now they are debating putting a muslin mosque there (wtf)
whether china succeeds or fail, what it has done so far for its people is a miracle. Make fun of it, live in deny, but it doesnt change anything...
