Which funny enough explains why they are protesting.
it's because Hong Kong and Taiwan was where all the Nationalist who lost the war between 1945-1949 and is anti-communist took refugee from communist red army. The Americans in 1945 refuse to loan the nationalist with guns and ammo and weapons...and pay for the army. The Russians were supplying communist in the war with food and weapons and tanks, artillery and clothing and gold to the soldiers and the communist promised free land and no debts to peasants.. basically the Nationalist were betrayed by Americans which is why they lost the 1945-1949 war.
Maybe the Brits had something to do with that? Give those folks a chance to be their own country I say. They certainly have the trading ability, resources. Hell, they gave the world Bruce Lee, and that has generated a lot of money around the world over the last 45 years. That is an export, yes?
I have to move my trading office from honkong to Kuwait because of this protest, I could hardly trade 4 months ago from my honkong office.

I have no dog in this fight but I do notice some differences in all these recent "protests/riots":
Hong Kong, 6 months, 1-2 died.
Iran, 1-2 weeks, > 400 died.
Iraq, a few weeks, hundreds died.
Lebanon, a few weeks, hundreds died.
India, a few days, at least 10 died.
Chile, a few days, at least 10 died.
Haiti, a few days, more than 30 died.
The list goes on.
I think comparatively speaking, the HK Gov/police showed great restrains. If they are puppets of China, then China showed great restrains, so far.

Agree, but can't really have anything positive to say about China due to the anti-China thingie going on in the media.
Seems like HK gets a brick ton more media coverage than the rest of the other protests/riots.
