This is all you need to know about cards for multi screen setups.

You first need to decide if you want a financial card or a playtime card. ATI is playtime, always have been always will because that is their nitch. Matrox is overpriced, way over priced because they are from canada and exchange rate is bad. Not to mention that matrox is from french speaking montreal where they do NOT LIKE you if you speak english. Screw matrox their support is horseshit and if you can not speak french you are toast.

As some have said, never mix brands and todays motherboards are sensitive about the cards slots...........example, on some boards if you use the 2 x16 slots (not true x16 slots even) the x1 slots are disabled.
Personally i see most having card troubles because they do not research their needs before buying a computer and cards.
DO NOT think you can get away with cheap stuff, buy HIGH END motherboards or pay the consequences.

I like Matrox but only because its free... Also, in my experience, I have found Matrox to have good customer service, but then again we have over 100 trading stations in our firm, all of which use Matrox cards. They always warranty them if they break - no question of age, etc. They were also very willing to work with us when we were looking for a cheaper card to run dual monitor setup only.
I would have to assume that as an individual you might have a hard time with them and PNY might be better. I have never seen these cards before but they look like a cheaper alternative. Hog do you know if they make similar for a quad setup?
EDIT: totally agree with hog that playtime cards are not the right tool for the application. You need a robust workstation card rather than a gameing card.

Quadro NVS are great cards for trading.
Mainly use the NVS 280-290-295 solo or in pair. and they work great and are pretty cheap.
For ATI, they were mainly pros with TV related stuff. but now fighting for the King of the Hill in the gaming world against NVIDIA.
Both have a branch of products for gaming and an other for professionals.
But on a side note, no matter which card you get... you are only printing 2d stuff on the screen, so you'll get amazing perfomance from whichever type of card : be a NVS 290 or a Geforce 8800 or better . the only difference here, is that a Geforce 8800 is a bit more expensive ... and has a huge fan, makes more noise, generates more heat and takes more wattage.
And nothing wrong with Matrox cards. They have a pretty nice USB device to add screens.
I had the same problem too and this is what I did to fix it. You need to have all the same series of video card (example, 3 g-force video card, and not 2 g-force and 1 nvs even though they are all nvdia tech). I have mine on 2 PCI-E X16 and one on PCI slot and it works fine on window XP. Good luck and hope that helps.
Well you guys can play with vid cards all you want. My advise works for me and that is all that matters.

An update.
I had bought an ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 which had arrived in the post, after i had bought the 9500GT overdrive.
The ATI MOBILITYU RADEON works perfectly for 6 screens, but it wont play the games that my boys would like (nothing too flash, they would like star wars lego and need for speed)
The 9500gt will play the games perfectly, but will not work properly with my existing colorgraphic quad card.
My feeling- return the radeon 9500, and swap the 9500gt for something on the same chipset as the radeon, but better.
Any ideas on what card i should get?
