I am an engineer (not the best professional background for a wannabe trader) and I can "see" stuff on charts.

You can talk til you are blue in the face, and many times I won't have a clue, but put up a chart or some numbers on a board......

This is a matter of great psychological curiosity to me. I wrote out an expansion of thoughts in my journal, figured I would cut and paste it to another post here, and then had immediate second thoughts because I did not want to 'give too much more away.'

Now I know that it's not really giving anything away in terms of a loss to myself, like sharing the details of a sensitive arbitrage system would be, because principles imbedded in the fabric of reality itself will never be affected by how many people utilize them, and my trading will not suffer if I elaborate further on a simple principle that successful traders already know and use.

But at the same time I get this weird feeling sometimes of 'did I tell too much?' whenever I clarify something that I feel is of 'high importance,' regardless of whether the information is 'user sensitive' or not. Perhaps it's similar to how Bilbo might have felt when Gandalf asked to hold the ring.

I have an internal dichotomy- wanting to share but also NOT wanting to share. There is this part of me that believes all knowledge I possess is a gift, and so it is in my friendly nature to want to share that gift with others. But then there is the guarded, competitive part of me that says 'hands off, this is MY stash of understanding, climb the mountain on your own.' This second part of me is mostly greedy and possessive, but also whispers a convincing argument in my ear: 'you worked so hard for this understanding, no one told YOU straight up, why should you tell others so simply and easily rather than let them climb and bleed and struggle as you had to do?' I want the first to win out, but the second is strong.

How many have the will and inner strength to open that door???

The student has to be on the brink of understanding, at the apex of the fulcrum filled with desire, or what is revealed will won't be understood anyway. A serious desire to learn and understand is different than just wanting the blueprint. I know you know this , just throwing it out.

i understand what you're saying completely. i find it funny that people say there's no "secrets" to the stock market, but there are definitely some principals that must be used if you want to make money. sometimes these principals are not obvious and quite frankly, most people probably won't think of them on their own...they'll probably read them somewhere or be told by someone else. i don't care what anyone says, there ARE secrets. some of the things i know now i NEVER hear on tv. the stuff on tv is total bs and i can't help but think it's that way on purpose. the smart guys want to keep the dumb people dumb...that's how they make their money. when i first got into trading years ago, i had no f*cking clue what it's really all about.

the point darkhorse is bringing up really hits home for me. there are definitely some things i want to discuss here, but sometimes i wonder if it is really in my best interest to do so. sometimes i wish i could make a post and have it only be read by those who "know already." there are probably some of you who may be in the same boat. you may have some advanced ideas you'd like to share with people, but at the same time, you don't want everyone to know. it's a tough call.
