problem with electric cars is that when oil is under $50 its not worth it to spend an extra $5K when gas is $3 a gallon . The only thing that will make us change to electric is government regulations like england saying buy 2040 there will mandate no gas cars .
Things are changing however. The incredible creativity of material science is yielding huge dividends. While we won't likely have say thorium micro-reactor cars for various reasons though big advances are being made in power generation and reducing transmission losses.
Thorium powered roads?
Even electric cars need to get their energy from some source. That will most likely be an oil or coal burning power plant. The net effect will then be that the exhaust gases will be at an other location. Not at the tail pipe of the car, but at the tail pipe of the power plant. Assuming that most electric cars will be used for small distance city trips, this means that the fumes are moved from inside the city, to outside the city as most power plants are located outside cities.
your vehicle combustion engine is exponentially less clean and efficient than a power plant ; coal included.
Really? Do you have some data to share about that?your vehicle combustion engine is exponentially less clean and efficient than a power plant ; coal included.
