5.4 Million More Americans Have Gotten Insurance Since 2013

About 5.4 million non-elderly adults in the United States gained insurance coverage since September 2013, before Obamacare's open-enrollment period began, according to early estimates by the Urban Institute.

The study measured the net change through March 31, when enrollment ended.

The uninsured rate fell by 2.7 percentage points, to 15.2 percent among adults 18-65. Unsurprisingly, the drop was greater in states that adopted Obamacare's Medicaid expansion -- by an average of 4 percentage points, versus 1.5 percentage points for states that declined the expansion.

The Urban Institute cautioned that the estimates "understate the full effects of the Affordable Care Act on the uninsured" by not fully capturing the late enrollment surge and omitting dependents who gained coverage under a parent's plan.

The institute illustrated the phenomenon in a chart:

Yeah! How many are subsidized at others expense?

You do realize that providing subsidies so that people can buy private insurance is the Conservative alternative. Hell, in the budget Paul Ryan released couple of days back is all about providing subsidies.

The report found that 85% of new enrollees are receiving subsidies. "We know that means they are low income but we don't know the age breakout. A lot of people who aren't eligible for subsidies may have bought insurance directly through carriers rather than the exchanges."

I see the development of a new conservative meme.

First it was, 'no one will sign up'.

Second, 'most of them won't pay'

Third, 'risk pools will collapse'

Fourth, 'more people will end up uninsured'

Now it's 'but they are all subsidized moochers!'

Except the part where conservatives fail to mention that subsidies are part of their Obamacare alternative as well.

You can rub all the shinola you want, the ACA is still a big turd and time will prove it's fallacy.

First, not enough healthy young people will sign up to stabilize the risk pools, they will be skewed heavily after the numbers come out to reflect the unbalanced amount of people with preexisting conditions now covered.

Second, 15-20% haven't paid but are being counted.

Third, see #1

Fourth, No one mentions the millions of people who's policies have been downgraded and changed, premiums and deductibles increased. Subsidizes alone don't begin to calculate the cost the average tax paying citizen will incur because of this clusterfuck ... these costs are never addressed.... prices haven't gone down, they have skyrocketed and quality diminished.

Obamacare is great for the small percentage of those who couldn't get or afford insurance, it's being involuntarily paid and furnished at others, (mine) expense.

So pat yourself on the back dumbass for a job well done, enjoy it, Come November the people who are footing the bill will be lining up at the polls to vote this shit out.

Given the final numbers are beyond expectations, even if 20% don't pay their premiums, the net numbers will still beat forecasts.

Except the studies from RAND, Kaiser and now Urban Institute say the opposite or don't say what you are saying.

Who do you think paid when people used ER for their healthcare? It wasn't your expense then?

The biggest welfare group in the country are Republicans, the Medicare crowd (pays out 3 times than paid in ) and the heavy food stamp/welfare crowd are the ones who will be voting in November.

So how the fuck are they the ones paying the bill?

Starting out the magic number was 7 million and magically on the last day we hit 7.1M... but now 20% of those are expected to drop for nonpayment, and how many million of those remaining were forced onto the exchange because their insurance was lost?

7 million enrolled is a farce.

Please keep telling the millions of people who have had their health insurance screwed over, premiums and deductibles raised what a good job Obamacare is doing. I'm sure you will have their vote come November.

CBO projected in January of 2009 that the deficit at the end of the fiscal year would be 1.2 trillion, it ended up at 1.3 trillion.

Maybe it's just MATH?

Between, final tally is not done yet, more numbers are coming in and the paid number is very likely to be above 7 million.

Millions didn't lose insurance, no study or survey proves it.

time to quit arguing with a paid shill

Time to quit arguing with another inbred Con, anybody posting information that's outside of their bubble is either a troll or a shill. There is a reason why people with low intelligence are attracted to Conservatism.
