people who wanted enter this APRIL/MARCH LONG/SHORT ( 40.90/36.90 ) spread at this time you get this spread for $4.00 ( better than my price )
- at this $4.00 down side risk is very very low, only upside potentila

Closed my APRIL/MARCH spread flat ( $200 loss ) , this is the advantage of spread even with this big drop in MARCH no loss, that is what I mean very low risk above.

All in all I did good last week , only complain is missed the MARCH short from 38.0 onwards . I posted many posts over weekend to catch MARCH drop from 37.50 onwards but found no discussion .
If there is a good discussion on MARCH we would have caught some of MARCH drop . Due to lack of discussion I went spread instead of out right MARCH SHORT .

This forum is more focused on charts action for next half hour rather exploring possibilities for next day or two that why losing many oppertunities.

@useman it seems you went just LONG APRIL without spread , hope you recover this $1 for APRIL contract

I don't think people check the forum on weekends, at least I don't

I am totally interested in trading spreads. I am planning on it soon. I think trading spreads is the best way to trade.

InvestVision, I've been learning about spreads but I haven't yet trade it. Though I think its a bit late for me to get in the MAR/APR spread.

The APR/MAY spread is around 2.55. So do you think that will rise to 6-8 range by expiration date next month?

Also, do you know where I can get information for fair value of a spread? what should be a normal range by near expiration?

Thx

1) APR/MAR 2.55 is low risk , you may risk .50 at max that to if you close in week or so , if you can wait few weeks you NEVER lose you money on this one. if you wait for 1 month one of day you make $2000 profit atleast .
it has good upside potential , 6-8 potnetial i can not say , it all depends on oil storage , perceived demand for coming quarters etc.
why we need $6-8 that is profit of 6 times the risk money ( risk money here $0.50 ) , that is the problem with us traders we DO NOT take "low risk and medium to high profit " potential trades but look for "high risk high profit " potential trades .

i do not look for fair value , i look for historic values and trend .

few typos in the above , corrected below
- APR/MAY 2.55 is low risk , you may risk .50 at max that to if you close in week or so .....
- why we need $6-8 that is profit of 12 TIMES the risk money ( risk money here $0.50 )

Thats what I like about spread trading. I am still reading this book I recently bought: http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Commodity-Financial-Spreads-Trading/dp/0471716006

It has some amazing inter-market spread ideas with historical probability stats with some as high as 90% success rate. Too bad my broker IB doesn't support that inter-market spreads. Until I find another broker, I am going to trade calendar spreads. IB requires a $500 margin on the APR/MAY spread. If i open a spread, I'll problly do it with a min of $1000 margin for each contract, so i don't have to monitor the position. With my 10K account, I can't problly open 10 contracts and just let it ride until next expiration.

closed for 28 points ( 2 contracts ), could not resist profit

Good job! That was a good scalp.

Which indicator do you look at it and how did you know it was going to bounce from 38.85?

I do not use indicators, i am fundamental analysis guy and follow broder stock market ( s& P 500 ) that is also fundamental way and read different people opinion on broder markets , not charts

I am not against charts ,daily charts OK , not 5 min , 10 min etc..
