As to the amount the "well-to-do" pay, this is about the lowest estimate I've seen. I believe the rich pay an even higher percentage.

Personal experience.... With all the taxes, not just Federal... I pay ~ 40% "off the top, from 1st dollar".

~40% of the populace pays zero Federal income tax.... some even get payments from government after paying zero tax... wealth redistribution, you know.

no doubt everyone should have skin in the game.
We should tax govt benefits at the same rate. (even if we have to raise them to zero them out at the start. That way people will be voting for more responsible govt.

CA is a mess because only 33 percent here pay income tax and they vote for higher taxes.
its an insane way to run a govt.
