43" 4K TV as a monitor?

Curious if anyone here is using a 43" 4K TV as a monitor for their trading? If so what are the pros and cons? I have been using a 32" 1440P monitor (2K) for many years but could use the extra space. The price is right on a 43" 4k tv compared to a monitor and I've read that many go this route.

Just wondering if any traders are using this set-up and if so how do you like it?

I've got one and it's my favorite display. You can get el-cheapo models like TCL... or for maybe $100 more, a Samsung unit, which I have.

You'll want your video card to have HDMI output which supports UHD resolution for the TV. If you instead have a video card with only DP output, you'll want your video card to spec to "UHD resolution @ 60Hz.... and you'll need a DP-HDMI cable that also states "UHD @ 60Hz" resolution. Otherwise it will run at 30Hz... which is still OK for trading.

Do you happen to know if your display is a VA panel or an IPS panel? I am thinking of picking up a cheap 43" model at Costco that way I can easily return it if it doesn't work out for me.

I am rocking a 6ish year old Dell Inspiron 3847 with an I5-4460 processor which still works great for me. The only issue is the internal graphics only have hdmi 1.4 so I would need to get a graphics card to do 4k@60zh. It sounds like I need a card that has hdmi 2.0 for 4k@ 60hz.

I am looking to these cards which I believe have hdmi 2.0 and should go into the PCIe slot in my Inspiron 3847:

I don't know what type of panel I have.

You can also shop at Best Buy... you have 15 days to return. BB holiday sales often better prices than Costco... Easter coming up.
 
Few more questions if you'd be so kind:

Are you running it at regular dpi (not scaling up at all)? If so is the text about the right size and not too small?

Is the text nice and crisp? Any blurry text at all?

Would you consider the screen glossy or matte? My 32" monitor I currently have is matte (which I like) but I think most tv's would be more reflective but hopefully not too bad.

Will the windows screen saver come on like it does not when I walk away from my screen for a bit? My computer doesn't good into sleep mode so just the screen saver comes on. I'm hoping the tv can function the same way?

Sorry for all the questions and I appreciate any responses you may have.
 
I've been using a Samsung UN43RU7100FXZA 43" for a few years; purchased at Best Buy for around $300 IIRC. Runs perfectly at 4k - crystal clear for coding/trading purposes. I believe they've replaced it with newer variants (e.g. UN43TU8000FXZA) so I'd make sure you can return whatever you decide upon if it doesn't work out. Be sure to get a quality HDMI cable meant to drive 4k screens even if it means spending a little more.

This screen is matte which I like as well. Screen saver/power modes all work the same as a "normal" monitor (I have mine go into "sleep mode" after 30 minutes, and the screen will eventually power itself off without a signal, etc.).

Running without scaling DPI-wise - text is fine for me to read at a couple feet away (it's mounted on the wall behind my desk). Wish I would have bought 2 43" rather than have 2 other 24" and just the one @ 43". I do have another we use for normal TV usage that I may grab and and replace with a newer model just so both are the same for trading purposes. Basically would have 8 screens worth of real estate :).
 
1. Running at native res... 3840x2160
2. Under Display, Scale and Layout... "Make Everything Bigger" I have at 150%, and with the "Text slider" I have 133%. This display is in my game room from which I view from across the room. Otherwise I wouldn't need to upscale the size so much. Plenty of flexibility and adjustment. I'm sure you can find suitable.
3. Text is crisp. Not blurry at all. Colors more vibrant than my computer monitors.
4. Kind of glossy, but not high gloss. Positioned so that no lights reflect off the screen however.
5. I don't use screen saver nor sleep mode... so I don't know. TV as monitor should function the same way as now. After all, it's a Windows function.

That rings a bell. Mine might be the "TU700/TU7000" of that series.
 
3 monitor setup.
Running two 4k 43in Dell monitors, extremely happy with them. Using a 32in Dell 4k as well as the 3rd.

I don't use the Dell display managers, and I zoom 175%.

Had to buy a quadro card to push the screens. Even still it chokes and I run one monitor off onboard Intel
