Personally I think socialism is a better system, a global trend - the way to go and possibly an unstoppable reality!
As mentioned above, for even among Republicans, there are now Already 17% having a favourable opinion of it!
Interesting article. No doubt you can devote vast resources to one or two stragglers in a class. When most of the class is comprised of people with no interest in education and no family or cultural background to motivate them, it is not so easy. You can't give the entire class extra attention.
You can't teach even the motivated kids when you can't get rid of disciplinary problems. Those smug Finnish teachers wouldn't last a week in a typical US urban school. I wonder if their vaunted teaching degrees taught them how to deal with gang bangers who openly threaten them in class? Or violent girls who think nothing of fighting with cops brought to the classroom to deal with them?
You are correct. "Socialism" or human progress is the trend. The US due to poor education lags the rest of the developed world by 60 to 80 years. Take any metric: Social Security - Germany in 1870 / US in 1936, Socialist Health Care - Canada, UK, New Zealand 1945 - 1949 US in 2010. Iceland democratic institutions with universal suffrage 970 AD / US (if you count Blacks beng allowed to vote in the South ) 1964
In Finland you don't have those gangs of violent 5th grade girls raping their teacher's, killing the mean boys with AR-15s and burning down the municipal buildings....they know they can always come to America on vacation to do that.
America could use some better cops...our keep killing unarmed people with 127 gunshots.....does New Zealand export them along with sheep wool?
