40 million on food stamps in the USA

Here is the link. Thats right, 1 in 8 Americans are now on food-stamps. The food-stamp program does not have actual stamps anymore, but they give you a credit card and the average benefit is about $130 a month.
In order to qualify, you go to your state's website and input the figures. I checked it out and it said for me that I had to have an income of less then 1600 a month to qualify.

Frugal people know how to cut expenses. How do you think that all the illegal immigrants that work for low wages manage to survive and send the bulk of their income home to their families? They certainly don't overpay for housing.
My friend just rented a 3 bedroom house, eat in kitchen, dining room, living room, washer and dryer, use of backyard, street parking.
$1800 a month.
Another friend just rented a one bedroom for $1225 a month and that doesn't include the price of the parking which is an additional $50 a month.

That raises a good point: $1,600 can go a lot further in one area than another. The figures for qualifying should vary based on the cost of living for that area
