3000 troops to West Africa

This is one of those rare instances when we should provide foreign aid, assuming of course it is distributed in a way that gets to the affected people and isn't stolen by their leaders.

We waste billions every year on elites at the UN, etc. I would certainly endorse tranferring that money instead to help these people struggling against ebola.

Sending troops there however strikes me as a very bad idea. They need medical personnel and basic supplies. Our military is so expensive, it is like using a ferrari to ferry relief supplies to people after a hurricane. Use an old truck instead. For what it will cost us to send the military there, we could hire local nurses and doctors and ensure they have proper equipment.

I also object to putting troops into this type of threat. They signed up to protect our country, not be aid workers.

I was thinking the same thing. What are soldiers going to do? Shoot the virus?

They signed up to protect our country in the way decided by their commanding officers.

Yet you supported deserters who didn't want to serve in Iraq.

Make up your mind dopey.

Our military personnel are not in any way properly trained for this. Aid is one thing. Exposing troops to this is something entirely. My guess would be given the choice between being exposed to this deadly virus, or deploying to Iraq/Afghanistan, they'd take the combat zone in a heartbeat.

I agree with that, but then we don't know exactly how they are to be deployed or used there, either.

The military is not trained to administer this kind of aid. So, what happens when 1,000 of our troops contract ebola? Duh?

More STUPIDNESS from Odumbo!

1st thing America should do... not allow any direct/indirect flights from west Africa to land in America.

Once again America steps up to do the heavy lifting. Why only us? Well, to be blunt, most of the rest of the world doesn't have the means, and the few nations that do don't have the interest. So to the critics of evil America I think it's safe to say that without America the entire world is either dying from some plague, engulfed in flames, or both. You're welcome, you ungrateful fucks.
