This one is interesting. If you get undergrad for free or almost zero, then you might not take it that seriously and not establish a good skill set. If you spent 100,000, well, then you become a debt slave and must bow to the man and be a good sheep for a very long time.

Of course, if you don't know your passion during college, well, you might have just wasted money on drinking at bars and chasing the opposite sex. or long talks about how to save the planet.

college debt is the best way for the gov't to control its minions. it used to be getting them to buy a house. but then people walked away and didn't care about the stigma. you can't do that with college debt. thanks for playing

Have to agree with the earlier post - it is sad. A lot of young kids fresh from the propaganda mill of high school simply have no idea what they are getting into when they run up massive non-dischargable college debt at a high interest rate. As someone else said, it used to be the mortgage that kept you enslaved, then people learned they were suckers and just walked away.

I think these new college grads are going to wise up fast. Many will realize life in the US is a dead end for them. Why sit here forever trying to pay off those loans for their "valuable" college education. If their skills are so valuable they should translate into earning potential overseas or in private enterprise where earnings can't be easily garnished. In reality most college majors are a waste. In that case the kids can still choose to immigrate or work the underground economy and at least not have their earnings taken. The establishment doesn't realize the big mistake they are making on this particular scam.

socialism for all is a luxury, noone can afford except couple of eu countries. not because it is too expensive but because too greedy people are allowed to breed :confused:
