A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll didnât come up with numbers pleasing to the NBC News staff, though Brian Williams, on Tuesdayâs NBC Nightly News, did his best to spin the findings as showing
âthere is really bad news if you're an incumbent officeholder of either partyâ and Chuck Todd insisted the public wants more from the elections than âjust change [in] the color of the jerseys.â
Todd, however, couldnât avoid reporting that âthe change that voters wantâ includes
54 percent who âhope that this Tea Party enthusiasm in the Republican Party makes them a fiscally conservative partyâ and â54 percent want to see the repeal of health care.â Plus, â42 percent tell usâ the Tea Party movement has âbeen a good thingâ â more than twice as many as see it as a âbad thing.â
Unmentioned by Todd or Williams: Those pro-Tea Party/anti-ObamaCare numbers came from a polling sample dominated by MSM television news consumers. Question 36, in the PDF rundown of the survey, asked from which âtelevision news sources do you get MOST of your information about politics and current events?â From the list offered, 35 percent said âbroadcast network news, such as NBC, ABC, or CBS,â 16 percent named âthe cable channel CNNâ and 8 percent affirmed they rely on âthe cable channel MSNBC.â That adds up to 59 percent, compared to 24 percent who cited âthe cable channel Fox News."
Todd also couldnât resist touting Bill Clintonâs popularity:
The most popular politician we tested in this survey â we tested the President, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, you name it, Nancy Pelosi. Bill Clinton has his best ratings we've seen since he left office. Sort of nostalgia for the good old days may be helping the President.
