Profitable systems do not stay flat for 3 long years, they either have a statistical edge (and in that case they recover fairly quickly from even the most severe drawdown and they keep making new equity highs on a regular basis) or they don't, simple as that.
So your question should read : "Basically flat. Is my trading system really profitable or am I just kidding myself?"
I was in a similar situation myself a few years ago, I took a nights/weekend job just for fun - I recommend you do this to take the pressure off. I have also had several freelance type IT jobs off and on during the past few years in addition to improving my trading skills.
Review your trades for the 3 year span. See if you are able to find certain conditions where you were more profitable (like having more success during certain months etc) and certain conditions that caused you to have more losses (such as overtrading at certain times of the year/day etc). If you are able to pinpoint these, you can revise your strategy and give it another go for a year or two and see if your results change. If you are still not profitable, then you should quit and find something else.
