Minimum wage that is below free market vaule

Zoning regs that choke the hell out of growth? dont have them
lower taxes - income and property
no unions

If you think for a minute that where you live is not more of a planned economy try opening a new oil refinery or factory that produces PVC. You will find out quickly who is living in the "planned economy" pretty quick.

I can not think of one type of business and especially factories that would be easier from a government compliance point of view to open in the US than in China. Can YOU?

Yes, and take a look at the disastrous pollution in China. People in Beijing wear masks, one third of the great Yangtze is sterile, etc.. The list is a long one.

You misunderstood my point. What I meant was, for every dollar paid to the welfare, the government has to pay $5 for labor. So, if welfare paid out for 2007 is 1Billion, it will cost the government 5 bill in administrate it.

I think your not giving the gov. enough credit. Your low balling that estimate they can waste much more money than that.:D

Quote from Allen3:

Republicans do not equal conservative. You can not claim there is one conservative in any government anywhere in the world. Every politician now is pandering to and paying off voters. Unless of course they aren't living in a democracy.

I previously expressed how I don't make political comments or participate in them, because they cloud one's judgements regarding seeing trading opportunities and taking them, especially being on the floor in the pits. However, politics and economic discussions do share the same footprints sometimes.

So, from the economic perspective, I appreciate your correction, however, on so many occasions, this administration has painted itself as just that, conservative republicans. One fellow trader explained (oh, so many years ago) that the symbol is the elephant because when they tell a whopper they crap all over you like an elephant dump. Equally, he said, those other guys are all a bunch of jack-asses. I have never stopped laughing at that analogy.

Either way, we as American citizens have a whole crap load of stuff put upon us by those elephants....

and for that matter, it doens't really make a difference whether it was the whole tribe of elephants or just a few within them,

we're all in a massive pile of ..... and only have one group to blame...

this is why I participate on these threads,

facts like these escape the general pervue of the normal economic discussions...

so, what are your outside references to confirm these conclusions?

it seems to have some basis in fact and logic, perhaps there was a study that is accessible from the internet that you could paste the link to, in your response,

would like to see these studies... they most likely will have further references to justify their conclusions....

cheers

I dont disagree totally from you. China in all major cities is a dirty place. The point is not the results of what is going on but what type of market it is. I would go further to say that many of the problems are traced to the central planning days and are now for the first time being looked at in ways of fixing all the sins of past

Living conditions are all over the map.

My point is that it is largly a free market and in many ways more than the US.

Quote from 5yrtrader:

China is still a centrally planned economy. The government sets the price of many things....

"The Fifth Plenum in October 2005 approved the 11th Five-Year Economic Program (2006-2010) aimed at building a "harmonious society" through more balanced wealth distribution and improved education, medical care, and social security. On March 2006, the National People's Congress approved the 11th Five-Year Program. The plan called for a relatively conservative 45% increase in GDP and a 20% reduction in energy intensity (energy consumption per unit of GDP) by 2010."

Ahh, now I understand where you are coming from.... You are believing what the central government is saying and not looking at what they actually do. Its a communist government but mostly and increasingly a free market economy.

It appears that you are new to the world of propaganda and how China will make one decree after another (especially if it makes for good window dressing to the world) but most are meaningless and without follow through.

Try spending some time in a place before you make statements about how they operate. China is a wonderful and awful place all at the same time. Its a lot more complicated than what you can read about.

Here in the UK our chief moron has raised the tax on the lowest income group. Maybe he thinks they should be proud to support the rest and the Iraq war etc. We didn't even elect him. He took over from the US's poodle ( now on a huge salary from JP Morgan ) to swan about the world talking to old friends.
It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic for some.
I can just see the US President pondering whether or not to have a bigger advertising blitz to tell Americans how well off they ALL are. That should make the poor feel better - he would reckon. Another dose of the American Dream while the Titanic sinks. Its not until the chill wind reaches The Hamptons etc. will anything happen. Let through more shipments of cocaine that will do the trick, GW will be saying.
Apparently the US is buying up wheat, corn etc to turn into ethanol for cars. The increased cost of such staple products are way too high for millions already. The starving millions will doubtless get that warm feeling knowing the the gas guzzling SUVs are still running in USA and Europe ! Its getting near wake up time guys.

From far away it is obvious that the USA era of dominance is drawing to a close. What a waste. What a shame. Nearly a great blessing to the rest but flawed here and there so much so that all the cracks will imho cause a fatal collapse.
Every mariner knows that in Arctic waters the build up of ice on the decks and rigging make the ship so unstable that if it is not chipped away the vessel will capsize. So it is with the US model. No longer can an ailing company or industry pull themselves out of trouble by paying the bosses loads more money and sacking say 10% or bigger of the workforce. The model is too top heavy. Do you think the guys at the bottom on the minimum wage think of the company as a team effort. Not bloody likely.
Sunk by the culture of personal greed and GWB. He has pissed away the West's wealth into the sands of Arabia. Get rid of that idiot as soon as posible - time is short.

Unfortunately we don't have the "mid-term vote of confidence" option of some countries, so we're stuck with him until January.

Sad part... it's not even a matter of the world surpassing us. Our leadership has just pissed it away (while lining their own pockets nicely, of course.)
