25% tariff on goods coming in from Mexico announced

Well, very simple solution: let Mexico simply close its borders to the south to prevent economic migrants into their country, pass through their country and into the US. Works much better than any border wall. No wall needed anymore

So he's blaming Mexico (half-way lawless, and on our border) for the complete breakdown in civil society off of *their* southern borders. Fucking brilliant, and a sure way to make friends and influence people -- OR a sure way to ruin Mexico completely, insuring the Western Hemisphere goes mostly back to the Stone Age. ((OR, becomes fodder for infiltration by Russia {"Can you say, "Venezuela?"} or China, who'd both like nothing more than to give us a *real* problem to worry about. Monroe Doctrine be damned -- that's why China is giving us the big F-U on the Spratleys. {"Unsinkable aircraft carriers, a 1-tank flight from their shore}))

How about on our side of the wall, just past it, a concrete moat filled with piranha, alligators, and sharks with frickin' laser beams on their frickin' heads?

Lol, let's worry about US losing trust with Mexicans when Mexicans deliver the slightest amount of goodwill and reason to trust them again in delivering on their promises. It's those who underdelivered for decades to make the first move in repairing trust.

I thought there is a trade agreement between U.S and Mexico called NAFTA? What's the point of having a trade agreement when one side can arbitrarily impose tariffs? Does this trade agreement carry no legal effect? Wouldn't U.S lose trust among friends and potential friends? Who will dare do business with an entity who does not keep to his promises and agreements? This may impact negatively U.S business interests and the stock indices going forward.

Right, how about you start donating around 10,000 dollars (read ten thousand dollars) that go towards rebuilding the entire middle American and Latin American continents and I promise to match your donation. When we all chip in we will have the money required to do so. Go ahead and we will all follow or you just love others to pay for stuff you want?

This is Trump and his current constituency in a nut shell. Whereas Mexico could do more to stop the influx of illegal immigrants coming from their border the actual problem is more south. If you look further, the major hubs of illegal immigrants were, or still are, Banana Republics who were destabilized by the US decades ago.

A TON of car manufacturers offshore production to Mexico. Of the car manufacturers that have returned, they have cited slow downs in sales of cars produced in their Mexican facilities, NOT the Stable Genius, as the reason for closing shop there. A characteristic of Trump is to take credit for things he hasn't done. This is yet another one of those instances.

Gems, machinery, vegetables, plastics, etc are still produced in Mexico and will be for a long time. You have to be asleep to think Tariff Man is doing anything for America w.r.t. Mexico. Turn off Hannity for a minute and read the analyst reports.

If he did want to resolve illegal immigration we'd take part of the wall money, ask Mexico to contribute to the fund as well, and rebuild El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and other illegal immigration hubs that we destabilized so they have no reason to flee anymore.

Guy just turned 100 million mexicans into underground railroad coyotes.

Letting illegals earn money in the US is ok and we should just let them be here? Why do we even have laws then? Remind us, where did you learn your moral and ethical values again? Did you by any chance get your online degree from the Boleros del Mexico University?

Trump just put another tax on the U.S. consumers & businesses who pay the brunt of this. Trump speaks or tweets with his 8th grade level English, & 'Homer Simpson' like ignorance is going to end very badly for us.

The last time the U.S. put on trade wars like this it was catastrophic, it gave rise to Hitler/WW2!

Globalization is good for U.S. consumers, it gives us incredible buying power & access to any products we want.

When the richest people try to sell you on the notion that some poor hard working immigrants are the ones causing you all your problems - don't believe it for a minute. Illegal immigrants have always been a significant profit center for the U.S..

Trump is making China great again, pulling out of the TPP enabled China to take lead of the Asia rim & to get more business from our Euro allies.
China's Xi said Trump is just a showman with no real strategy, the easiest president to deal with so far. Xi considers China to be lucky to have Trump.

Wow, that is fast. Look how fast the muchachos are dancing all of the sudden. Never seen them jump through the hoops this quick ever in their lives. Now that tariff announcement works like good 'ol lube.

looks like Obrador is chickening on retaliatory tariffs and is opting for the hippy route:

The Latest: Mexican leader warns against ‘coercive measures’

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador says his foreign relations secretary will lead a delegation to seek a peaceful and negotiated solution to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose stiff tariffs on goods from Mexico if the country doesn’t do more to slow irregular migration.

López Obrador said late Thursday in a public letter addressed to Trump that “social problems are not solved with duties or coercive measures,” and alluded to the United States’ history as a nation of immigrants: “The Statue of Liberty is not an empty symbol.”

López Obrador wrote that Mexico is doing its part to avoid migration through its territory as much as possible, without violating human rights.

The Mexican leader also urged Trump to “please, remember that I do not lack valor, that I am not a coward nor timorous but rather act according to principles.”

An Australian processor is currently working on a deal to process that mined earth in the US. Almost certain it will be approved.

The thing is, it's actually refining of available ores. The three global hot spots are U.S., China, and Africa -- we were actually shipping *our* ore to China for refinement.

In the meantime, there is now a fourth area -- the shallows of the South China Sea -- in areas controlled by Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, and increasingly {but furthest from home} China. Whoa! Keep that in mind when we're arguing with Japan: right off their shores are very valuable, rather toxic, necessities.
