Nancy's advantage right now doesn't matter,they aren't 1 seat short of passing anything which is why Dems didnt waste any resources contesting the seat.

Kamala may need to be removed by Dems as well after she is anointed. Dem Party now wants both out. They may try to install Michelle Obama. They have no one else on the bench. The Dem Party is dissolving as we speak.

I think though that you have not analyzed the why correctly. It's not that that rank and file Dems want more progressive actions. Rather, it's because they want much less.

Thats true,but progressive voters want more progressive actions .There are a lot of progressive voters who are tired of moderate democrats,has been for awhile.Millions of progressive voters stayed home or voted Nader in 2000.Obama was ok so they came out for him.Millions of progressive voters stayed home or voted Jill Stein in 2016.A combination of Trump and Biden running farther to the left of Obama got progressives out in 2020,but we realized we have been duped and wont be falling for a guy who was a moderate his entire career then promises to be progressive when running for president.

The number of these progressive or bust democrats are growing.Personally I have voted for the democrat nominee my entire life,but from now on if the democrat nominee is not a progressive who has been a progressive their entire career I will be voting for The Green Party nominee.

After some thought voting republican tells the democrat party they need to go more to the right.Voting Green Party tells them they are losing because of progressive voters not voting for them.And they cant win without us as they learned in 2000 and 2016.
