I suspect it'll be a good long while before another negro has a chance at the White House.
I admire Dr. Carson, but he should stay out of the presidential race.
Politics is a profession. How would he react if I showed up at the Johns Hopkins door and said, I'm interested in medicine and watched every Dr. House episode. Now I'd like to see some patients and maybe perform some operations.
Intelligent, informed people can have valid opinions on issues. Being president involves a lot more than that, as obama has shown. It involves judgment, leadership and the ability to deal with a group of prima donnas in congress and a federal bureaucracy that is extremely hostile to conservatives. We have no idea how Carson would handle any of those challenges.
By entering the primaries, he only muddies the waters and splits the conservative vote. We saw John McCain get the nomination in 2004 when the conservative vote was split.

The president has advisers up the wazoo... for everything. He shouldn't claim to "know it all" or have the solution for everything "on the tip of his tongue", anyway.
What America needs most in a president is someone who will do what's right for the country and keep within the confines of the Constitution. LOTS of honest, patriotic citizens could qualify for the job.... in fact, politicians are probably among the least qualified by that measure.
As far as "splitting the vote" (the black vote, especially)... that would be a good thing.

well, I vowed a long time ago that I would never ever vote for a republican or a democrat again, and I have voted for both. I voted for Obama against McCain, Bush against Gore, Kerry against Bush, Dole against Clinton. The only one who could get me to pull that straight republican ticket is Carson. I already saw what people with "experience" can do to this country. I'd rather vote for somebody just randomly picked out of the phone book.
Carson shares two attributes with Obama, other than race. One, he is prominent and considered a potential presidential candidate soley because of his race. A retired white doctor, no matter how prominent, would have elicted yawns from the media. A black conservative one however is news.
Two, he is unqualified to be president. Obviously, he's more qualified than Obama, having actually run something, but he has never held public office. Other than a few inspiring speeches, we know nothing about him. Don't forget all the heavy breathing for another admired black guy, Colin Powell. Can you imagine what a disaster that dolt would have been as president?
You want someone with a track record in public life, so we know what his principles are and how hard he will fight to advance them. I fully understand the desire to have a candidate who has some backbone and seems to stand for something, ie not Romney, and is not obviously crazy, ie not McCain, but that person should be a current or former governor or senator. They should be someone who has demonstrated an ability to win at least on the state level, ie not a representative. President of the United States is not a starter job.

And your personal top three choices are...?
I think there should be 2 more requirements to run for president. (1) Having served in the Armed Forces on active duty (if you're going to be CIC, you should have worn the uniform), and (2) having been the governor of a state.
But, we don't have that. I'd settle for someone I believe capable and willing to do the right thing.
