2014 option challenge

A great week and a new high for my trading account. TWTR rebounded hard. Made more $ off the USDTRY position. Sold MOAT at small loss. Plan to buy some jan 15th XLV calls in exchange for selling some SPY calls. finance.yahoo.com/q/op?s=XLV&m=2015-01

I got hosed badly on TWTR and liquidated the position over the past few days. Aggressive covered calls prevented a potential 14k weekly loss. I was pretty much writing calls $1-3 or more ITM each day it would fall and I would be forced to go down the chain until I finally said fuck it and bailed out. My original plan was to collect a nice $3k or more monthly premium but that wasn't going to work out because I was being forced to write further and further down the chain.

Last week I ended at $71400

Today the account reads $13700 (forex) and $54000 (equities) giving loss of $3700 all due to twitter.

But there was some good news. Last Friday bitcoin closed at around $870 mtgox price. It's now at $950 so that means a profit of around $70 percoin and since I own 38 coins I made $2850. Plus I mined $450 worth of coins bringing my total to $3300 weekly bitcoin gains.

A decent week. My forex account ballooned to $23k due to my USD/TRY position but lost a lot of money on XLV . Account balance around $74,500

Dogecoin up 70% ~ $600 profit
 
Update: lost so much $ this year it's not even funny

I dumped the USD/TRY for 4k profit - my only meaningful gain for the year. Had I held I would be down 2k instead of up 4k

Everything else is in the crapper.

Bought 5 shares of AAMC in January 2014, down $600 on that still. Who would have guessed a stock up 1000% in 2013 would be such shit n 2014?

Lost $ on FB because it plunged from 66 to 60 this week. writing covered call on the way down prevented much more losses

lost $1500 on USD/JPY hedge after the Janet Yellen conference 2 weeks ago. Usually, falling equities makes JPY rise until that day.

lost >$1.5k trading various futures contracts

A month ago went long a single deep in the money GOOG call at 1223, bailed on the trade breakeven. Otherwise, I would have lost $11k on it by now.

Shorted IBB this week..up $600 or so.

Sold my Jan 2015 $65 XLV calls at $900 profit in Jan.

Sold JPC puts at breakeven.

lost $2.5k writing far OTM TWTR puts b4 earnings. Stock tanks 20% who wudda known

Long 2 VX future as a hedge. Doesn't do shit when healthcare sector is plunging and the financials are stable.

Have 29 XLV contracts and shorted 75 IBB

Long 5 AAMC, 2 FB covered calls,

Down probably $8k this year total

Due to over leverage, I took a bailout from my personal bank account, bringing my total assets to $66k .

so pretty bad situation right now. I just need the healthcare sector to stop bleeding or for there to be soooo much volatility my VX goes to the moon (like flash crash of 2010)

A brutal market, no doubt

The plan is to avoid making stupid, unnecessary trades and just hope for a rebound in healthcare
 
here we go again..biotech red while the ES is up 10 points

added to my IB short bringing the total to 100

yesterday added 2 more FB covered calls

the next stage is to wait for XLV to rebound, close the position and begin the second phase which will be to short IBD 50 stocks while hedging with a single ES contract
 
On friday afternoon sold the 2x VX, covered the IBB, and replaced it with a single TF contract


down another $1000

total loss $9500 for the year

Bought some puts on WLB because it had been going up so much for no apparent reason. I figured it was due for a pullback. Lost $900 total on it on just the first day alone out of an initial investment of $1900. Sold two options to cut losses. The options expire mid May. What a joke.

I added more XLV ringing my total to 31 and then tried to hedge that with a single TF short. the XLV is worth around 180k and the YF contract is worth 120K and the XLV has historically outperformed the Russell 2000 (TF) ..until the past two days. Lost about $1k on the differential even though the XLV is bigger

Long two puts on HP because like WLB it seems overextended. down $60 so far on contracts that expire in mid april.

Long 400 shares of facebook and sold 4 calls against it. max profit: $500
. so far made $300 on the trade with 3 days to go. That will cover some of the WLB loss

I dunno how some folks make so much money with stocks.

What I'll probably do is wait for my TF/XLV pair to play out and then keep writing calls against FB to over the losses on the option trades of I could get very , very lucky and my option bets will pay off.

The next plan is to ditch TF and replace it again with 2x VX and then slowly sell the XLV until the VX hits 12 and there are only 10x XLV left
