2-factor auth with Automated Trading

Interesting thread. I've had problems with IB Gateway restarts in the very recent past.

My computer time is set to Chicago, even though I live in Sydney. The problem seems to be that when I start IBG on a Sunday Sydney time (Saturday Chicago time) IBG doesn't request 2FA when it restarts on the Sunday. It often requests this on the Monday or Tuesday.

This is too random for my liking as I like my sleep, and don't like waking up with a login request on my screen.

I haven't noticed that as I don't run it over the weekend. My IB Gateway is closed by task scheduler every friday and then i manually login on Sunday with 2FA. IB does weird stuff on servers over weekends, I prefer fresh start.

Let's just be glad that IB at least is making it mandatory to use 2-factor authorization and let's also hope that the 2-factor authorization works better than Robinhood's.

What's good about it? We're talking about Gateway instances which only accept localhost connections and are exclusively used for trading, typically on very secure Linux boxes. Taking care of security should be left for the customer, forcing rules down the throat is not a solution.
That said, I've yet to see mandatory 2FA. Could it be a Canadian thing? AFAIK certain countries require 2FA to be used, it's not up to IB.

Those that I have no control over I don't obsess over and consider as just a cost of doing business. Eg exchange outage or IB bugs. Fortunately they've been once in 1-5 years kinda events, and there are some strategy design choices that can be made to reduce associated risks. This happens every other month and typically can be dealt with after-hours.

So I am at the point where I can check my phone once a day, and occasionally take a leap of faith and disconnect for 1-2 weeks. Occasionally there is a cost, occasionally there is gain.

Trading MFA requirement significantly increases the risk of missing trading session if not dealt with immediately. This requires very different level of alertness and involvement.

Personally i dont like using my phone much ;
compared to a computer:caution::caution::caution::caution::caution::caution:,:caution::caution::caution:. Once a day;
Occasionally take a leap of faith for 6 or 7days [one week].
A big CAT could leap for 7/14 days....... .. all its life, same with a deer.
I like work to much to skip much more than 5-7days[one week]
I did enjoy my IBKR calender; strange most calenders have 4 or 5 grid lines\weeks;
that older IBKR calender had 2 grip lines week sections.
In other words IBKR had 14day sections/per month;
instead of my favorite 7 day calender sections-standard\ per month:caution::caution::caution::caution::caution::caution:,:caution:
