There's no problem with resolution... years back, a few 19", 1600x1200 were tried, but didn't catch on in the marketplace.... I guess everyone thought the text was too small(?). So, the industry adopted SXGA as standard for 17" & 19".

You'll only find 1600x1200 now on 20.1", 21", and a few laptops. Even those are likely to be phased out in favor of widescreen.

1. Unless you stack monitors vertically, a stand is rather a waste... all you pick up in usable space is a small area under the monitors where there once were 2 stands, now one.

2. The monitors are at the bottom of the value scale, so no big deal at the stated price.

3. That video card is ancient. You could probably one one used on eBay for $.99. However, it's still OK for trading apps.

Overall, not a compelling deal.

Curious now that is has been a few months what the people who bought the Hanns-G HC194D think of them now? Are you happy with them or is it a case of you get what you pay for? I was thinking of buying a couple. So many choices out there though. Obviously these are the cheapest option but not like paying up another 100 bucks makes that big a difference. But if they do the job then no reason to spend money just to spend it either.

newegg selling jc199dpb for $187. is this just newer model? looks a bit nicer.

I got a 194D for $120 AR... bought mine in June and am still using it as my primary monitor in a 4-monitor rig (TV tuner looks best on it... other monitors are older PVAs).

All of the Hanns-G LCDs apparently have a Samsung TN panel with 3 year warranty. If a TN panel is OK for you, there is no obvious reason to avoid Hanns-G.

They are fine for me. It's not a Samsung, but it's just like my Dell that came with my computer in quality.

It has a TN panel. Nearly all the TN panel screens in the value range are the same. It matters little which you pick.

It's sort of like asking, "Red Chevy Cobalt or Blue Chevy Cobalt?"

ok, so now u know what i am going to ask right? what is a tn panel and why do i are whether a monitor has one or not. right now i am using the hp screen f1503 that i bought with my computer. does it have a tn panel?

I can't tell what type of panel (could be that it's so old it's before the time of "ubiquitous TN").... "TN" is Twisted Nematic.... a type of LCD panel known for it's low response time... but also for reduced color fidelity, reduced viewing angle, reduced contrast... a "gamer's monitor"... compartively cheap.

Other types of panels are "VA" (various ones) and "IPS".

The primary attraction of the TN panel is its rapid response time for games... unfortunately, at the sacrifice of "everything else". I have some, but they are not my favorites. (I bought them because they were very cheap and/or had big rebates... thinking, "if they turn out crappy, at least I got them CHEAP"... they've been better than crappy, they've been OK.)

90% or so of all monitors you'll find at big retail stores have TN panels... they want to compete on price rather than "quality of display".
