18.3% of personal income is from food stamps

MA Healthcare is working great implemented by Romney. Whats up with that?

Quote from Stok:

This Country has be ruined by the democrat liberal's. They have been on a nanny state campaign for about 60 years in which to take the public's money (taxes) and give it out as handout's in order to get votes. It has been a brilliant plan that has sucked sooo many worthless people onto the nipple of the gubernment that it may not be reversible. There would NOT be a democratic party without two things: 1.) guberment handouts and 2.) unions (goonions).

It is the exact reason Europe and the EU are doomed and will collapse. Nanny state's and liberal-socialist who have piled on massive debts in order to achieve their goals. It amazes me to see at least some austerity measures going on over there, privatization of health care (Greece) and other "pro-capitalist" measures, but here we are driving ourselves with odumbo and the socialists off a cliff.

Amazing. My Dad is rolling over in his grave...same with our Founding Father's and Reagan.

if you take away safety nets and not help the poor wont we be like mexico . The rich scared for there life because the poor wants to kidnap and kill them for there money . The system is good how it is now . Just increase taxes for the wealthy and cut defense spending and we will have this beautiful country how it was before. and when we elect our next white president all you can stop complaining how life is so bad in america.

The healthcare system is decreasing innovation and entrepreneurial spirits by locking poeple into dead end jobs for healthcare. This is what corporate america wants, it's a great way to keep the drones on lockdown.

I agree a hundred percent that 99 weeks of unemployment definitely discourages people because they have that money coming in and just get lazy.

Quote from zdreg:

the best way to discourage people from taking government benefits is to have them work at dirty jobs ande a low wage to receive the benefits. make it unattractive enough they will find a job or create a job for themselves. of course 99 weeks of unemployment checks makes for a permanent class of unemployables.

That will only come by force. As human nature goes, the Government simply can't control themselves. They will spend on a perpetual growth model until the model implodes under the weight of the massive amount of debt each and every American owns, thanks to their Government's spending.

Quote from jlancaster:

Cut military spending and you get unemployed soldiers, weapons factory workers and millions of people who have become dependent on the military industrial complex.

IMHO the whole economic model based on perpetual growth needs to stop. When government creates policy based on zero growth we'll be alright.

Quote from piezoe:

The actuaries take all that into account except for fraud.

Nope. Those paying the taxes aren't the same as those reaping the benefits (e.g., someone who hired an attorney and is now considered "disabled" and will collect benefits from age 25-to-grave.) The post was misleading. And the term "trust funds" as well as the way the whole system was set up originally (supposedly insurance) is also a farce.

What about the attorney they hired. Aren't they benefiting and aren't they paying taxes?

Medicaid, Medicare, SSI, needless wars, on and on.
The only time it all stops is when the disease has progressed to the point that we lose the patient.

When it comes to SSDI, the only way you can reap the benefit is if you paid FICA taxes. Your monthly benefit is also based on your lifetime FICA earnings.

Save for the ones abusing the system, SSDI is a reasonable benefit.

My problem are the large numbers of people double and triple dipping, ending up with a retirement income that's nearly the same as their what their working income was.
