I graduated HS several months before the creation of the federal dept. of Education and the subsequent decline in our public school system.

I know this is a bit old but back in '04 when bush was re-elected the teachers wore black arm bands.

You've been around here long enough to remember some of the shenanigans in schools during Obama's 1 st election that were posted here.

Yeah but I had to bribe my teachers to let me pass. Nowdays the federal gubbermint is doing that writ large.

Me too, and I also remember old farts telling me then how bad the education was while I was in school and how much better it was in the good ol days. Same ol thing IMO.
I think some of the problem is the growth in size of school systems, back in the day schools were smaller and way back in the day more students were rural, both may have some effect on the outcomes.
I know several teachers, they seem about the same as back when I was in school.

I don't.

I think some of the problem is the growth in size of school systems...

Could be, although teachers unions liberal school boards and the department of ED are the biggest impediments to a sound public education system. NONE of which were an issue when I was in school.
