There are tales in my family about the upheaval the whole extended family experienced when my great-grandfather abandoned human civilization in the 1940s and disappeared up the Rogue River where he built a cabin and eschewed most outside contact for the remainder of his days. My father spent summers up at that cabin and hated it because the old boy didn't have a radio lol. He just fished and hunted and tended a garden and apparently made some gin occasionally. The older I get the more I understand those instincts.
