10 things I wish I'd never believed

Quote from TraderZones:

This has already been discussed in great depth. Among some of the many reasons:

BS/BA grads make about 80% more lifetime than HS grads

BS/BA grads have about half the unemployment levels of HS grads

Being educated is a lot better than being uneducated

Many of the jobs that HS grads seek - union, factories, warehouses and many others are disppearing rapidly.

Many of the jobs that HS grads seek will go to college grads/those with better educations.

And the list goes on. Yes it is a bad economy, but now and in the longterm, these things still and will hold true.

Many jobs that colllege/university graduates seek are disappearing too! It isn't IT/Engineering that gets offshored any more.

Even Jobs like Accounting and law case prep work are going overseas. A friend got her degree ans state license in nursing last summer cannot find a job in her field. Only one graduate from her class has a nurse job more than 6 months after graduation. Meanwhile, hospitals were imported foreign "experienced" nurses instead of giving the local graduates a chance.

My friend was wrong in assuming that nurses will always be needed and have steady work in the community. This friend lives in Seattle. Another nurse friend in Boston said that she was lucky to get her nurse training a few years ago, now new nursing grads have an impossible time breaking in. Hospitals are importing South Africans and Filipinas in massive numbers.

Forget about degrees - unless you have a love for a particular field of learning.
