People learn differently. My learning had to do with accepting that I could not control the emotions, but I could learn how to control my reaction to them. It required admitting that I had emotions that I could not control, then observing them from a detached perspective, then learning that I could act in a manner that was not in agreement with them---yet not resisting their presence.
Similar to bravery, a brave man is not without fear, he simply acts according to his will to serve a purpose higher than his base emotions.
