Posted this yesterday in the long spanish thread but it s probably odd enough to deserve its own thread. Make sure to check the video in the Huffpost link.

That s funny, especially the protester shouting in a megaphone while being chauffeured in a convertible Mercedes,and this happens not only in Salamanca, the poshest district in Madrid city. This evening Plaza de la Moraleja, in the neighbourhood where I live, was blocked by protesters, that s possibly the wealthiest district in whole of Spain.
Good news is the protests have now spread all over Madrid, also in the working class areas. Weird to see the province and the city wanting to open up and the central government denying it repeatedly while most of the country has now started its deescalation program.

Sure, I d seen right wing protests, in Paris they were going on weekly when the left wing government legalised gay marriage ( goes to show how little the french right wing has to fight for imo) but that's the first time I see street protests attracting the financial elite.
Madrid is taking the issue to the supreme court btw, hopefully we move to phase 1 soon, so the kids can hang out with their friends and don t need to adjust to times to step outside unworkable 5days a week.t
During 7 weeks btw all street protests were impossible, no matter the time, people were not allowed to step outside except to attend to essential duties, they could just bang their sauce pans from their balcony or window.

The financial elite, probably, just a guess, can see clearly through all of this average flu nonsense & enough became - enough.

Can never get it right for all, satisfy everyone. Open up early in densely populated cities and you have 2nd and 3rd waves and need to close shop again. There is a reason that those countries in Europe and America, who did not take this serious early on and even throughout the crisis, are the hardest hit. Some people will always complain regardless of whether it's the top or bottom. I am sure there are many others who protest the current government but there are also millions of those who support those strict measures. You don't like how things go where you live, acknowledged. And can appreciate that.

Who are those people who are not happy with the lock down?


1. The well to do people.
They want to move around, go visit friends, go sun bathing ....
They can protest very loudly because they are very well fed.

2. The businessman.
He wants business to open so as to earn more $$$.

3. The very poor people.
They have virtually no savings as they live hand to mouth.
They stayed in rental flats, in the park ...
But by now, they would have been kicked off by the land lord.
They have to work to earn money.
They are so weak from hunger and they are unable to protest.



Watch out for those who are unable to protest,
not those who are able to protest.
It is those who are unable to protest that needs help.

No doubt some people are having a tough time financially and that will possibly get worse once some temporary relief measures disappear, but now tenants can t be expelled and there is free food available for the neediest in Madrid and probably all of Europe( major free food distribution center in Madrid report number of people using their service already above 2008/2009 levels).
Public health is also going to shite with the lockdown, but that s discussed in the Spain thread.

Money is obviously linked to lots of protests but that s not the only reason. Don t think when people march against abortions in the US their pocket is their main focus.
Can t talk for people marching in Salamanca but as long as stock markets hang in there ( and the possibly upcoming Covid Solidarity tax is blocked in Madrid as is the other current spanish wealth tax, another thorny issue) I m pretty numb financially to the whole situation and still consider the lockdown, at least the spanish one as it is softer in other developed countries, (one of ?) the most revolting policy I have had to live through.
Anyway posted the OP cuz the situation is quite odd, can t remember ever witnessing something like this
