#1 Key to a successful career in Politics and the Corporate World?

Seems to me, knowing where the bodies are buried. Having enough dirt on enough people to bend key decision makers to your will, and silence the opposition.

I hear Hillary is threatening to expose Congress' dirty secrets if she gets indicted for her email server.....Mutual assured destruction.

People keep saying Trump is amazing because he has made all these verbal gaffes and still is leading.

Look at Hillary. She clearly violated laws and State Department regulations. Obama's Secretary of Defense says she was undoubtedly hacked. Her time at State is best known for the Bengazhi disaster, about which she lied to the victims' families. Her husband is a notorious sexual predator, whom she enabled and shielded. Their foundation is a conduit for enormous amounts of special interest money which has been linked to various official acts.

Yet she is the democrat frontrunner. The conservative media are obsessed with...Donald Trump. She gets free ride.

The whole thing stinks, doesn't it? You laid out the case for a media conspiracy well. It makes zero sense why FOX wouldn't be on that all day long.

In the least conspiratorial way I can imagine, I think media are owned by their advertisers. Going after Hillary on issues that could actually destroy her, Fortune 500 probably wouldn't like that. Cause they definitely don't like Trump. So FOX is told more or less to shut up about Hillary. Keep the gravy train going/status quo etc....

you are correct. advertisers in a sense own media. I worked for a newspaper that was notoriously liberal. Yet the owner was an establishmrent republicican who held fund raisers for the incumbant republican senator at his house every year. I asked him if he was a republican why his newspaper was so liberal? He said, "Ah that is all up to the editor. All I care about is circulation. And circulation sets ad rates."

Ya. Took me a long while to figure that one out. Made no sense how national media basically tow the line of Corporate America. All about them dollars.

Maybe some ET'ers recall a period in the '90's when resignations on both sides of the aisle were just about every day? A rogue CIA guy had a supercomputer in a truck [not making this up], the internet was not in the least bit secure and he was getting the dirt on all of them. He would take their money out of their Swiss accounts and send them documentation of their crimes. They had a choice of stay and lose their money or quit and get their money back.

I think they do.

Would Merck tolerate nbc running hit pieces on Viagra and propecia all day? And still buy hundreds of millions in ads? No
oh yes, you are correct, but nobody cares if they are pro Trump or Pro Bernie. Monsanto put the screw on FOX when they were going to run a hit piece on dairy antibiotics. But they don't care what you say about politics as long as you have ratings.

What you are missing is that many corporate CEO's these days are liberal. Even if they are not, their ad agencies are totally run by liberals, as are their law firms. Their charitable donations are generally run by some liberal VP who was a politician or worked at a foundation. Their lobbyists typically are ex democrat congressional staffers or members.

The lobbyists firms and democrats on the Hill are still angry about Tom DeLay's K Street Project, which he started when he was Whip. He insisted that lobbyists had to hire republicans if they wanted to get access to republicans. It was a form of congressional affirmative action.

The media acted like it was corruption but really it only was only a challenge to the status quo that only democrats could work as lobbyists or in the media. The media still bar republicans. DeLay? He was indicted and sent to prison by a notoriously partisan Texas prosecutor. He was eventually cleared on appeal but his political life was over. Mission accomplished as they say.
