So France says the proposal from the European Commission is to excessive and needs to be changed. Their solution, a wider base than what the Commission has proposed in the first place, you can not make this up.
If they make a treaty change there is no way on earth they are taxing the euro outside of the eu.

Isn't this the first we've heard Merkel talk about the ftt in awhile? It seems as though she's been quiet about it lately.
I still believe that if this tax doesn't get scrapped completely then it will have to be so watered down that it won't be much of a factor. There is no way the US is going to let the EU tax US citizens trades.

goldman is off to bigger and more profitable businesses than trading stock in public stock markets in the US.

when or if the ftt gains traction in the US either goldman will get an exemption or it won't care anymore. it will do some kind of deal with congress, fed and/or sec in exchange for not fighting the ftt.

Wow...We thought that FTT was so irresistible that we started developing compliance Tools but now that it is losing traction we need to promote it so that we didn't lose our time and money( brief summary )...real suckers here.
