1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Here in Italy the situation is much worse for traders than showed on this article.. the taxation proposed by the government and that could become law in the next few months is 0,05% for stocks and also for derivatives. So they will totally kill trading on derivatives in Italy... I recognize that we have perhaps among the worst politicians in the world but I did not think at this level... I hope for other traders around the world that you have better luck in your countries and more cleverness in your political leaders.. At this moment I can say that I'll not give 1 euro with my trades and I'm looking to move to another country...

P.s Tips are welcome

Switzerland, London, Malta...

When my wife and I were in Italy a few years ago we flew from Rome to Malta and it was only about a 90 minute flight. The ferry boat ride from Malta to Sicily was also about 90 minutes. I don't know if living in Malta would appeal to you, but the cost of living is definitely lower there than cities like London or Geneva and it provides easy access to Italy.

Great idea about Malta. I was there a few years back, pleasant weather, good food, and if it all gets too small continental Europe and Africa are a short hop away.
