1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Quote from lindq:

Further text disagrees with that headline:

"Somewhat unexpectedly, Spanish authorities have tabled proposals for a Spanish Financial Transactions Tax (FTT) ..."

Having looked into it further, the article I referenced was dated October 1, but actually the exact same article had been posted elsewhere on September 11 - before the September 26 reports that said Spain had withdrawn support for an EC9 FTT along with Italy.

Just one more part of a World Left Wing conspiracy to bankrupt and obliterate the democracies imho. So that they can impose a New World Order under a Stalinist clique of power hungry extremists.

Ably assisted by the greedy people who are stuffing money into bank accounts that at the present rate will be worthless figures on computers.

Assisted by greedy and incompetent politicians.

What with terrorism, it sems the end is not too far away.

With exceptions of course, the most basic characteristics of successful politicians include greed for power, willingness to lie freely and skillfully, and conduct that by and large can be described as duplicitous.

And it is in the hands of people like this that we place our fates.

Someday, probably not in my lifetime, society will re-examine the whole concept of democracy and question the wisdom of giving power to those who crave it most and then go on to wield it in ways that are unacceptable to large segments of the very people that elected them.

Until such time, we will have to deal with this situation and the unwelcome aspects of it, like the FTT.

There must be 100,000s of political scientists at or have been to Uni. You would think they might spend a little time devising an upgrade on the present forms of democracy, which frankly are not working.
Sad to see the new democracies in Burma etc just emerging after decades of oppression only to find the old democracies fading away.

[UK leader of opposition] Miliband (also) pledged his support for a financial transaction tax, dubbed the Robin Hood tax, but only if it is implemented internationally.

He said: “The way this Robin Hood tax is going to work is if you have it in each major financial centre. We already have a tax on share transactions in this country and if we are going to make an international financial transactions tax work then it has to be in every major financial centre.

“Our plan is to implement it in Europe and the major financial centres like New York. We hope it can happen and that is how we hope to do it.”
