1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

I saw somewhere that someone had a done a calculation showing that the FTT could cost the average person over $100,000 lost from their 401k over his/her lifetime.

Does anybody have a reference on this? I can't find it.

It's a powerful argument against the FTT, but I don't want to use it unless I can back it up.

If you've followed the FTT push by DeFazio since 2008 you would realize that he is very likely retarded. I'm not even saying that as a joke, I'm almost certain he has some sort of serious mental deficiency.

Anyway guys, get your arguments written up and paste the shit out of them for the next little while.

Lol. I have says for years that liberalism is a mental disorder. I think obamacare was invented just to cover it ;-).

dutch MP repeated today Netherlands wouldn't block an FTT for now, like he did 10 days ago, altough they don't like the idea of it being introduced locally. they are ordering an investigation by the Dutch Economic Agency into the effects of the tax on Dutch economy and will base all future policy on these findings.

it's quite sad, it's completely obvious from everything the dutch don't want the tax, are looking for a way out, but are locked in by germany who desperately do want it for god knows what reasons.

I don't think he is retarded. Although, I wouldn't know, I usually change the channel in disgust as soon as he starts blabbering his nonsense.

I simply think people like him has so much hate for Wall Street that they just don't even care who they hurt with their mind-boggling proposals. In this case, it shouldn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that a transaction tax and a subsequent lack of liquidity in the stock market will ultimately hurt anybody with a 401k (people that should be part of his own constituency) and not just Wall Street.

If anybody would like to add an address to my python rotator program to ping points at the internet, please give me your address and I'll add it to the program.

It's how I get 23,700,000 views on my journal, and also a way to keep asking a stupid ass server for updates, to where I need to program python to send a hundred thousand pings at least before it gives up.

Ha!

Pinging locations hyperactively typically leads to expulsion off the server but if you're connecting with python's urllib class, you'll be able to attract the webservers attention at the highest levels of search results and this is actually more important to building artificial records of each visit to the site and highlights an attraction to possible cyber attack where I've seen a few try to drop 28 trojan horses in a 12 kb file, doesn't fly around here, but I definitely have had to replace hard drives due to overheating. They still worked in Linux but had disc sector read errors in a few places however the entire cache of original data and program files and programs they took the time to hook em up slaves on master and download their files which had all of my financial records since before I graduated college.

If you'd like to stick a really expensive bill on your ex, just send a quicken list printout 195 pages long to their lawyer requesting an itemized list of topics of financial interest that I should have brought to trial.

I wish someone in the media would ask Rep DeFazio, Senator Harkin and the protesting nurses why they are so adamant about introducing levies on middle-class investors who have done nothing wrong.

That's phrased VERY well.

Get ready to comment on all the articles Wednesday! We gotta get our viewpoint out in front! We should email the authors of the articles too with a canned letter that we each make up ourselves. 1 letter & paste it away to 20,30,40 reporters. Doing that & they'll know OUR viewpoint for their NEXT article. They won't skew it to the pro-tax folks.

Let's go folks!

It's showtime!

It is better if we gather a list of e-mail addresses to post onto public forums so we can also make sure that they are spammed the shit out of when all the stupid ad bots find out those addresses on the servers.

The FTT will cost a pensioner a lot:

I have invested about 300 000 USD specifically for my pension. One half in mutual funds and one half in hedgefunds. If the annual turnover in the fund are 1, the FTT is 0.1% and extra slippage is also .1%, that means .4% per year less in pension (?). That equals 39 000 less in pensions for me (I have 30 years left until I retire). Quite a significant amount. On top of that I have to pay a yearly 1.1% wealth tax since I'm a tax resident of Norway. Good grief....
