1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

her article did try try to present both sides of the issue.however the last line showed her clulessness when she mentioned nurses unions in a favorable light.

This peculiar pair Merkel & Sarkozy along with some ill-advised supporters unwisely painted themselves into an impossibly tight political corner. Hasty megaphone diplomacy isn't culturally welcome outside Europe. Extricating themselves would be political wizardry a category they clearly don't fit into. Their only possible retreat (face saver) will be wider (existing) international dissent, and what is yet to fully emerge as businesses begin to make clear they are prepared to relocate.

November Cannes G20 will not be swayed, bluffed or bullied (and certainly not impressed) by distracting, forceful pro-Euro demands.

The whole article is cluelessness. There is ZERO EVIDENCE THAT VOLATILITY IS REDUCED WHEN YOU INTRODUCE A TOBIN'S TAX

Let the Euro Zone implement it.. they will back track within 2 years when it proves a complete failure.

And then we can bury this nonsense once and for all.

Not sure how that would work either. I would think all 17 Eurozone countries would have to agree to a ftt also.

Ireland is a member of the eurozone and they have already said that a ftt would need to be done at the entire 27 member EU level (so I think they would be a no). Also the Netherlands and Malta should also be a no vote at the eurozone level. Maybe France and Germany are going to have to go it alone?
