1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Italian 10 yr bond yielding 2% above Bunds seems a little on the low side if the futures volume is going to dry up 98% like in Sweden.

There is a reason there are two "I"s in "PIIGS".

GTFO of Italian debt whilst you have the chance.

Its not free revenue it absolutely destroys revenue - how can america with the huge increase of funds flowing into its markets from the EU not only turn it away by imposing such a tax but collapse there own system to?

Europe will lose business so quickly there will be no willingness on the US side to join the car crash.

But as it stands the UK will not bend to the will of the rest of Europe. Instead London will take business away from Frankfurt.

I still find it highly unlikely that the rest of Europe is going to go along with the FTT. The UK and Sweden are no's. Germany's parliament also recently voted no on the FTT proposal. If Italy does this (alone) capital will flee the country at an alarming rate. I guess they haven't studied the failed Sweden FTT experiment:)

Germany is also strongly opposed to direct EU taxation, even if Merkel and Schaeuble would like an FTT for their own German budget.

If a couple of nations go it alone and it fails miserably (which it will) maybe the others will lose interest and we can put Tobin taxes to bed for another couple of decades.

Spain is keen. Why not get all of the PIIGS to sign up as an experiment?

I'm sure the protestors in Athens would be delighted..

The question now is when the time comes to vote for an EU level FTT, will Italy vote no since they already have one (which would kill the EU FTT since the vote needs to be unanimous among members), or will they vote yes and have two FTTs, or will they vote yes and scrap their FTT in favor of the EU one?
