Lagarde Says Trading Tax Needs ‘Coalition of Willing’

France is looking increasingly desperate. 'Coalition of the Suicidal' would be be a better description.

Meanwhile another charity has upped the estimate to $700bn a year. Completely ridiculous. In a year we've gone from an already wildly unrealistic $400bn to $650bn to $700bn! The protaganists for this tax are the most shameless propagandists and utterly disconnected from reality.

"While the U.S. and Mexico oppose it, Lagarde suggested that France may consider implementing the tax with other countries even if some G-20 members don’t join the initiative."

Wow that would really be something. France and what other countries (Germany)? Capital would flee those countries so fast to 'greener pastures' where it isn't taxed it wouldn't even be funny. I'm willing to bet France doesn't have the balls to go it alone (LOL).

I hope you are right, or at least that they won't tax french people like me trading on US exchanges. I am just in the process of creating a company... However, if it is the case, I already have a back-up plan in Switzerland. All these clowns can do is waste our time and lawyer money.

I found this to be interesting:

"The European Federation of Public Services Unions is highly disappointed by the decision by the European Parliament Economic and Financial Affairs Committee in Brussels on 1 February. ECONs decision rejected acompromise amendment that a majority of political groups had agreed on to start implementing a financial transaction tax in Europe."

"the liberal group at the European Parliament broke the agreement and succeded in deleting the sentence which said “the financial transaction tax should be introduced as a first step at EU level”. The Liberals (ALDE) and the European People’s Party (EPP) effectively sabotaged the introduction of a European financial transaction tax by allowing the manoeuvre to take place."

Looking at this website, it's hard to understand how you can use so much energy to tax other people...What we do is understandable, we fight to preserve our livelyhood... But they are as committed at taxing us than we are at protecting ourselves... Go figure.

I don't know if it is applicable here. France is unable to do good things, but I don't know for stupid ones.:p

German CDU mulls transaction tax in three countries

BERLIN Feb 4 (Reuters) - The conservative party of German Chancellor Angela Merkel is considering pushing for a financial transaction tax that would take effect just in France, Austria and Germany, sources said on Friday. Europe's largest economy previously aimed to introduce the tax globally, but failed to gain wider support.
