1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

amazing. This thread was started almost 2 yrs ago and i can not remember obama uttering one word about this tax. Even geitner hasn't mentioned this in a long time. i just don't see how you can tax trades many of which are loses. i can see if they raise the capital gains tax as thats a tax on profits but to thow a tax on top of a lose for many people its a nonstarter.

Oh yes! Yes! Hallelujah! Republicans are so much better than Democrats I can't wait! No wait a second, they are both terrible. 4 more years of suck pretty much no matter who is in office.

Do you see Republicans trying to tax everyone to death like the Democrats??? Do you see Republicans drafting Financial Transaction Tax Bills every five minutes in Congress??? I would MUCH MUCH rather have Republicans running the country. The Democratic Party is controlled by socialist liberals who's only goals are to tax and spend us into oblivion. I love how some Democrats identify themselves as moderate. LOL!!!!! What a beautiful myth, huh???? Just like the global warming myth!!!!!

I hope you really enjoy your Republican-induced suckage that will inevitably come your way. Suckage from the left and suckage from the right, it's hard to get my bearings straight. Neither party has any financial clue what the hell they are doing which has been demonstrably proven over the last 8 years.

Oh, I didn't even mention the Democrats ramming through new "trillion dollar" entitlement programs "Obamacare", using the reconciliation process. New entitlements the country doesn't want, and cannot afford. As for neither party having a financial clue, you may need to back it up for the last 16 years. Let's not forget O'l Slick Willie Clinton's administration pressuring the banks to give out Sub-Prime loans, and allow for anyone with an $8.00 an hour job, a 500 fico credit score, and a pulse to obtain that 300k mortgage with no documentation loans. Remember when Clinton said, "Home ownership is a right, and not a privilege". It was this Sub-Prime mess that was a major contributor to the financial crisis, so we can thank the God father of Sub-Prime lending Bill Clinton for that.
I would much rather have Republicans running the country, as they won't impose these ridiculous entitlements, new taxes, and support having a mosque built at ground zero!!!!! The majority of America agrees with this, and that will obviously show on November 2nd!!!!

Obama and Geithner bashers should read this thread carefully before moaning too much.

IMO if McCain had won, the FTT would already be in place.

you cant be serious

60 states to lobby U.N. for currency transaction tax

http://ca.reuters.com/article/topNe...01?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0&sp=true

"For every 1,000 euros the tax we are suggesting will bring 5 cents," Kouchner told reporters. "It's not a lot, but enough to get things going."

------------------------------

Translation: Just low enough to more easily get it started and soon it will be raised to 2% and on all financial instruments.

This article is a bit misleading. The "group of 60 nations" it refers to is merely the membership of "The Leading Group on Innovative Financing for Development". It doesn't mean that 60 nations are backing the FTT as the article implies.

From their own website:
"A platform with 60 member countries with differing levels of development, alongside international organisations and NGOs, the Leading Group on Innovative Financing for Development seeks to promote the implementation and definition of innovative financing mechanisms around the world."

you guys know usa had this tax from the 30s to the 60s right? There isnt anything new under the sun. With 3 trillion a day traded it would add up and hopefully pay off some debts,,although my confidence in politicians is at an all time low.
Now here is my question,,as americans we have to pay taxes no matter where we earn income, now if usa has this and you trade some other nations markets,,would we still have to pay this tax?
Like if you live in one state and purchase products over the internet, technically most states want the sales tax,,most dont bother to pay it since its difficult for the state to follow the transactions,,but was curious what americans did back n the day when this tax was on the books,,anyone know? thanks guys,,have a great labor day weekend
