Geithner video from fox, nothing great he is talking about the tax not being useful to pay tarp or defecits. Which is all good but... now that everybody's harping on it for jobs different story. Especially with people in congress's distaste for Geithner. Get this jobs bill out of the way and lets see what happens at the IMF , we can assume this crap wont die down for some time, so we have to be fighting every step of the way. Regardless if things become silent about this for a while, still write congress, we should all write to Nazi Pelosi as well.

After the 2010 elections, the Republicans will have gained more than enough clout to kill off any bill that proposes a transaction tax. We would then only need to worry about the G-20/IMF summits. But, first things first. The jobs bill needs to go away or pass w/out a transaction tax, which I think it will. Even if this jobs bill passes w/out the tax, you know that Defazio will keep submitting bills trying to get this tax passed. We just have to keep writing/calling our reps. in Congress. So far, were doing a good job of it, as both the House & Senate trans. tax bills do not have a lot of co-sponsors, and will not get support from Senate Dems. like Charles Schumer, Kay Hagan, Robert Menendez, and more....

ksharmon,

In your Reuters URL, there's a blurb about a 2nd bill.

"Another bill crafted by Representative John Larson, the No. 4 Democrat in the House, would rope in international bodies like the World Trade Organization to ensure compliance."

If anyone sees the HR numbers on these bills, please post them. I'll be looking as well.

Here is a link to Mr. Larson's bill. He now has (1) co sponsor - he had zero for quite some time...

Wall St tax has "great deal of merit" - Pelosi

http://www.reuters.com/article/BROKER/idUSN0311827720091203

* Comments suggest tax could end up in House jobs package

* Tax faces resistance in Senate, White House

* Lawmakers vent anger at Wall Street (New throughout, adds byline)

By Andy Sullivan

WASHINGTON, Dec 3 (Reuters) - A proposed tax on financial transactions "has a great deal of merit" and would help raise much-needed revenue for the U.S. government, House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday as other backers touted it as a measure to slash Wall Street salaries.

"It is really a source of revenue that has really minimal impact on the transaction but a tremendous impact on helping us meet our needs," Pelosi said at a news conference.

This doesn't make much sense as Pelosi came out today saying they would use TARP money to fund the jobs bill. This says her comments suggest the transaction tax might end up in the jobs bill? Sounds fishy to me...

I want to see him go more indepth on this and what Obama thinks will help us to understand what they are thinking. I also want it out of the mind of Pelosi. It seems that one senator is going to introduce a bill next week in the senate, with Bernard Saunders whom is an independent. Dam there goes one of our indies! So far so good though we have opposition to it as long as they remain tough. That letter with 200 economists was ridiculous, our lobbies need to do the same thing of people that support it in the world of economics.

Saunders is one of the only people over the past few years to actually call himself a "socialist". Others shy away from the socialist label and the socialist democrats now rally under the banner "progressive". It sounds better and does not stir the negative response "socialst" does these among many in the US. He is as far left they get and I would not count on him for anything pro market.

It doesn't really matter if madam cunt Pelosi wants it in the bill or not. It will never make it into any final bill, due to a lack of support, especially in the Senate.

Use bank bailout fund for jobs package - Pelosi:

http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUSN037710620091204

Here's an interesting nugget from the piece:

"It turns out actually TARP, as wildly unpopular as it has been, has been much cheaper than any of us anticipated," President Barack Obama said on Thursday as he met with business and labor leaders to examine job-creating options.

It's getting to the point of being comical to see the news articles saying that Pelosi wants the tax in a jobs bill, then she doesn't, then she does........People need to realize that many of the news articles that are being spewed about all of this are written by liberal minded, pro tax reporters. They will write an article in any way to shape it towards their side and position. If you do a google search on financial transaction tax, you will see hordes of articles w/links from varying news agencies to do everything possible to spin a story to their liking, especially on this tax.
Of course, these politicans will tell a reporter their views on something one minute, then give another reporter the exact opposite viewpoint the next minute. That's why these politicans are the purest bullshitters of all.

Decent quote

"Nearly every American would be impacted by a new transaction tax, no matter how small it is," Steve Bartlett, the president of the roundtable, said in a statement minutes after Pelosi's news conference, adding that the tax "would erect a roadblock" for capital flowing through the U.S. economy.

The above piece also mentions Pelosi seeking a transaction tax to fund part of a jobs bill. It sounds like part of the bill would be paid from TARP and maybe the trans tax for the other:(

To help pay for the jobs bill, Pelosi suggested a tax on financial transactions.

"Because it is really a source of revenue that has really minimal impact on the transaction, but a tremendous impact on helping us meet our needs," she said. "I think there would be a market for it among the American people, to say that we are all participating in the economic prosperity of our country and we are all pitching in to continue that prosperity."
