1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Quote from JOSEF:

If someone on this board happens to live in one of these three Congresspeople's districts, please give them a call of support. I can imagine they are also getting a lot of criticism from people on the the far left. So, any calls to counter act that criticism would help.

Look at where they're from, Chicago and NY. It would be political idiocy on their part to go along with this tax. I want to see principled Democrats (do they exist anymore?) stand up against this tax, and be against it in districts in Iowa and Nebraska. Sometimes leadership means educating your constituents on why a policy is anathema to their interests, regardless of whatever populist sentiment is underlying said policy.

Well here in North Carolina those of us recieved letters from Kay Hagan in opposition of the tax, she is a Dem. I do not mind where they are from as long as Dems keep opposing this little by little, we need to crack away what we can.

True, the more the better. I'm just saying I wouldn't count that as some kind of bell weather. But glad to hear about NC. There are a few prop firms down there though, plus Bank of America, so that's also not totally surprising.

I will give you Bank of America, but I can tell you here people are pissed at that bank. Prop firms, I do not think people out here really know what they are nor to the reps care. But yes the more the better, and it is a start, better then we had severa; hours ago. Can you tell I am an optimist :) Hoepfully more and more come on board!

Quote from jprad:

Check your history. Each successive administration has leap-frogged the past the former ever since Jackson cleared the debt tab.
I'm certainly not disputing your point. I'm well aware of the constant desire to outspend previous admins. It's gone parabolic. Did Bush outspend Clinton by the amount Obama is outspending Bush? "Leapfrog" does no justice to the amount this admin is spending over Bush.

However, it was a republican who took away the freedom to own slaves...
And now they're called the party of racists. Who would have thought?

When we've all become tax slaves, who will set us free?

I just wrote a comment on the article, number 1 comment:) I suggest people do the same. I commended the letter and told them why. Its always good if we comment on these type of articles to show we agree with them as well.

Please please pleeeease if you're in any of these districts PLEASE email/call/contact with your appreciation because I think we are far more productive keeping the opponents of this tax fired up than trying to change the minds of the mentally challenged DeFazios of the world that refuse to look at facts if it doesn't agree with their ideals.

Good call!

Good call!

Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y), Mike McMahon (D-N.Y) and Debbie Halverson (D-Ill.)

Contact them all and keep them fired up against this tax! Furthermore, give them more ammunition to fight this such as how this would be a net negative in terms of revenue as well as everything we've discussed for 500 pages.
