Please don't mistake my comments for an endorsement of our political system or the quality of those who hold office. I believe there are serious structural flaws in the altar that we have all been expected to worship before and I am quite sure that a minimum of 50% of those in congress are scum; 60 or even 70% might be more realistic.
That said, I honestly believe that congress, as it is currently constituted would not deliver even 40 votes in the Senate for this crap concept and not a much higher ratio in the house.
Who knows what the future brings. In five or ten years these numbers may change but as badly as we are represented this nonsense is not close to possible.

Hey Sea, just wanted to thank you for staying on this. I just replied. I've also put the word out at a few other sites who are sending emails to Erin Burnett and Larry Kudlow. I'm quite disturbed that the AFL-CIO has involved themselves. I think that elevates the importance of resisting this at every turn.
I would encourage everyone to fight this at every turn. Don't let complacency or overconfidence stop you from involving yourself in this effort.

lol its the lead story on fox news.com. 6 months ago it got little attention and now its getting huge attention in a few days. gs and the boys better turn there hype machine to this are they'll go under like the rest of us.they mention stocks but no mention of futures or bonds or commodities. that would be totally unfair.

This tax won't happen. Not a snowball's chance in hell. This tax not only punishes speculators, or long term traders, but also goes after every American that invests in stocks through their 401k's at work. With an election coming up in 2010, and then 2012, does anyone really believe a tax like this would pass? Of course, there will be a few knuclehead congressman that will support it, but it will die a quick death before it would ever come up for a vote in either, the House or Senate, so everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax.
