1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Where's that link again, to write your state's senator/congressman? That's something I remember filling out months ago.

I'm also adding "if you support the transaction tax bill I will not vote for you in your upcoming election, nor will my family members - thanks in advance for your opposition to this punitive tax, which would inhibit active trading and market liquidity".

thx,

k

Baker's theory is that "if you're going to double your money on a stock, a little trading tax won't keep you from buying"...
IDIOTS!!!!!!
AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's a piece about a new proposed tax being broadcast on CNBC @ around 2:30. Will probably be online later in the day.

Did the piece air already? If so what did they say? Who was for or against it?

Some guy named Baker was arguing for a "little tax", and the Opponent whose name I can't recall was a frigging apologist.
The trial balloon figure now is 1/10 of 1%. Someone on this thread predicted that one.
We are in deep shit.

Quote from gkishot:

The rationale is very simple: greed. They think they can collect billions of dollars in additional tax revenues. But it's going to disrupt many strategies that are currently profitable. The profits will fall, the volume of transactions will fall and the tax revenues will fall as well. They will end up with nothing. Classic example of greed at work.

I am thinking "killing the goose that layed the golden egg." Financial services makes up such a huge part of the economies of places like NYC and Chicago, it is not even funny...

Check out the 2:30 video when it becomes available. Erin sounds like she's for the tax. If a CNBC anchor doesn't vehemently oppose such a tax, and in fact seriously considers its positives, we are as good as dead.

Every day we all should pound this station with emails explaining how this tax is bad, starting with squawkbox@cnbc.com (and every other program *@cnbc.com) until these dolts realize that such a tax would eliminate their jobs.
