1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Reminder: For those going to the NYC Trading Expo, be sure to inquire to the brokers in the exhibit hall what they are doing to speak out against a transaction tax from being enacted. Remember to tell them that there's currently 2 bills in Congress seeking the tax.

Finally someone in the media speaks out against this tax:

Rick Schottenfeld (?) on CNBC called this a proposal that would devastate what is left of the street and would put half the people out of work. He called it a dangerous proposal. You can probably find the video on the webpage later today.

*** If they are serious about pushing this tax, then they better add a transaction tax to every new home purchased (.25% on 6MM annual sales *210K median price - do the math) to pay for this mortgage bailout! And a tax on every vehicle sold to repay Detroit's debt too!

I am planning to do this for sure.

If anyone gets a non-form letter reply to the petition from their congressman/woman, please post it here so we can see the level of support or lack thereof from them.

How very thoughtful, huh?

This is the response, in its entirety:

Curious to why you would think that anyone who received our form letter would take the time to actually write an individual letter to anyone.

I went to Linda Raschke presentation and she briefly mentioned it, saying the hopefullynit will not happen.

I also spoke with someone who knows many from ag community, and they are lobbying against it.

Also Ice rep confirmed that they are lobbying against it, and it has very little chance of ever happening.
