1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Quote from hippie:

Does Moyers understand what this means to the livelihood of retail traders? The tax is more likely to exceed any profit even for the best of traders.

So these nurses think their going to raise 350 Billion with the ftt (LOL). I think they should stick to nursing. It's interesting that they got a real cold shoulder from the congressman they talked to.

"You know, there’s some sophisticated things about the financial transaction tax, but frankly, all you need to know is that people in this economy are hurting."

Really? Those sophisticated details can be overlooked? In terms a nurse could understand:

"You know, there's some sophisticated things about using high powered lasers on internal organs, but frankly, all you need to know is that people are sick and need surgery."

They are taxing every transaction, not the profits. This means MOST trading activity will be history. Many jobs lost, very little tax gain.

Outstanding as ever, Robert, thanks.

Also, just to let everyone know, Tom Davis has produced an outstanding, sober-minded, and exhaustively sourced treatment of the issue which I've posted at

I'm in the process of mastering(?) wordpress, and plan relaunch the website in entirely new form sometime later this week.

One of several publications that should be quickly challenged via quick attention-grabbing comment and a link to the abovementioned educational materials :-

Here we go again.

Germany runs roughshod over Europe with France as her accomplice.

Who's the target?

Great Britain, of course.

Sound familiar?

It's interesting that the article mentions trying to get 9 countries to sign up for this disaster. IMHO it's still going to be tough to do that.

Everyone knows that the UK isn't going to budge on this. Also what impact would Greece leaving the EZ have on the ftt debate? Once they leave the EZ is toast...
