1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Quote from MrPowerBallad:

Anyone have any idea what this may mean? Hopefully just shoddy reporting:

<b>"Amid signs that key opponents of a transaction tax in Obama's administration have been sidelined . . . "</b>

Who in the heck would that be?

From today's article:

I found something interesting about the Volcker rule and how it came about:

"Timothy F. Geithner, the Treasury secretary, and Lawrence H. Summers, the president's chief economic adviser, developed the proposals at the request of the president and worked closely with Mr. Volcker, according to White House officials. The plan was completed over the holidays and submitted to the president with a unanimous recommendation from the economic team."

"While Mr. Geithner and Mr. Summers debated concerns that proprietary trading was not at the heart of the recent crisis, they concluded that reforms needed to address potential sources of risk in the future."

How about we propose a tax of 0.005% tax on every word said by any actor (based on the total earnings of the movie that is made)? Why aren't the movie stars willing to aid the needy?

The only celebrity I can respect is John Mayer. The reason is because of the following snippet from one of his interviews:

Interviewer: What do you think about health care? Would you take the public option?

John Mayer: Have you ever heard me play guitar? I'm really fucking good. You know what I'm bad at? Answering questions about public health care. This is not in my wheelhouse. Do you have any questions about music?
This world is like Burn After Reading on steroids, filled with idiots who don't know anything about anything telling other people exactly how they should live their lives.

In regards to these celebrity endorsements, I believe the working document that these groups are using for their plan is the one I am posting here. The media blitz by this Curtis fellow is mentioned on page 3.

I felt physically sick reading this. I'm waiting for Bono and Sting to join Madonna, Gwyneth and Ewan. We have to try and see the funny side...I like the way they say 'fat cats' oppose it. If I see Madonna trying to push this through I might have to stalk her...

She's got more to lose than me.:D

I think this is journalistic license to put it mildly.
Or just plain bullshit.
The Guardian is the UK's left wing paper, for the 'intelligent socialist'...they are using the assumption that '(Obama team) getting tough on banks == more likely to favour FTT''
Just like Defazio: 'FTT=making Wall Street pay for Main Street'
Such simpletons.

Another idiotic proposal from the far left. They think that getting celebrities on board will help their cause. It won't. Just more bullshit from dish rag whores like Madonna, and other moron celebrities that don't feel loved enough.

We have to try and see the funny side..

The funny side is that the celebrities are proposing a tax rate that actually has a chance to be adopted (0.005%), unlike the trained economists like Baker who are throwing out rates like 0.25% that have no chance.

In other news, a Senator (R) who is also a member of the House Financial Services Committee just called the idea of FTT "nuclear fallout".

it says: The global tax is being called “the Robin Hood tax,” in order to convince people that it is somehow designed to take money away from rich people in order to help the poor.

Perhaps they are not aware that there already is a 'Robin Hood Foundation'(http://www.robinhood.org/home.aspx) founded by legendary speculator Paul Tudor Jones.
